The Boston Red Sox Tuesday, December 1, 2020 * The Boston Globe MLB Draft League launching wooden-bat league for top draft prospects Matthew Doherty Major League Baseball is launching a wooden-bat league for top prospects who are eligible for the MLB Draft, it announced Monday. The MLB Draft League, which will be operated by the scouting service Prep Baseball Report, has five member teams and is discussing adding a sixth team in the coming weeks. Teams will play a 68-game regular season from late May to mid-August, split into two parts. The first half of the season will showcase the draft-eligible high school, college, and junior college players. After an All-Star break centered around the MLB Draft (July 11-13), teams will restock their rosters with the top undrafted players for the second half of the season. Paul Toboni, the Director of Amateur Scouting for the Red Sox, said he’s unsure whether top prospects will choose to play in the MLB Draft League. The pandemic’s effect on the spring season will also play a factor, according to Toboni. “I think it’s too early to tell,” said Toboni. “It’s tough to predict the caliber of prospect that will choose to play in this league. And I’m stating the obvious here, but how the pandemic affects spring seasons will ultimately have an impact on prospects’ willingness to play as well.” The college baseball regular season ends in mid-May and the College World Series is scheduled from June 19 - June 30 this season.

  • 2018 Minor League Season Recap OVERVIEW
2018 Minor League Season Recap OVERVIEW: The 2018 minor league season has ended with the Cincinnati Reds organization receiving a promising representation from their farm teams and future superstars. In addition to Pensacola, Daytona and Billings earning playoff berths, the entire Reds system boasted a large number of midseason and postseason all-stars. One all-star in particular, OF Taylor Trammell earned most valuable player honors at the prestigious All-Star Futures Game in Washington after he went 2-for-2 with a home run and a triple. Trammell’s teammate at Daytona, 1b Ibandel Isabel belted 35 regular-season home runs to break a Florida State League record that stood for 68 years. Reds’ first-round draft pick, INF Jonathan India made his professional debut with stops at rookie levels Greeneville and Billings before earning a promotion to Class-A Dayton. The Boston Red Sox Wednesday, October 28, 2020 * The Boston Globe With the World Series over, the Alex Cora watch has officially begun Alex Speier The Alex Cora watch is officially underway. With the World Series over, Cora’s yearlong suspension for his participation in a sign-stealing scheme by the 2017 Astros has concluded. The former Red Sox manager, who’d been on MLB’s restricted list, is now able to interview with teams for the 2021 season and beyond. The conclusion of Cora’s suspension comes at a time when the Red Sox are looking to fill the very managerial role he vacated was his nine months ago. Curiosity is running high in the industry — including in many corners of the Red Sox organization — about whether Cora and the Red Sox will pursue a reunion. The Red Sox have already interviewed at least seven managerial candidates — none with major league managing experience. While many see Cora as a presumptive favorite to be rehired based on the strong relationships he has with many members of his former team, the Red Sox front office was meticulously noncommittal as to whether they will consider him as a candidate for his former position. “I don’t want to get into the business of saying a lot of things about him that I haven’t had a chance to say to him,” chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom said at the end of September. “So I don’t want to get into any more detail that that.” Cora left the Red Sox organization Jan.
