6 Day 7 FRAME/FRAMING (A/R) Meaning: refers to creating boundaries to fit assumptions, values, perceptions. To try to influence the way other people think by communicating limitations or point of view. How a person frames something communicates their point of view (and influences how others perceive it.) Day 19 ROBOT (R) Meaning: to being a robot is being colonized by the CI industry complex, or by AGB, or by a strict oral school. Another meaning, to what David Call wrote, “robot is an attempt to robotize Deaf child with mechanical implants such as CI and program her to "hear and speak" aimlessly for the rest of her life.” Another meaning, is a Deaf person who fought hard to get out of the system after being robotized for years, another word for being controlled by the system. 13 Day 20 FIRE ALARM (A/R) Meaning: Fire Alarm can be a Deaf culture thing. Deaf students pulled/pranked fire drill, to get the most number pulled, in order to compete with other schools. that is one example (true story). Another example is from your dorm room when a fire drill was pulled, what was your experience like? When seeing all the flashing lights from the outside building, they looked amazingly. Many different types of fire drills you can remember at Deaf schools, or at Gallaudet, or at NTID, etc., etc. based on your experience. However, it can also happen at work for a Deaf employee. 14 Day 21 TARGET (R) Meaning: a target is usually in red color circle. It means that you are in the spotlight for the most desired wanted person. For example, Nancy Rourke’s Mask of Benevolence, shows a red color circled on a Deaf person signing “STOP” among all other greedy professionals who think of $$$ and try to give away fault messages to the hearing world. They are aiming at a Deaf person, because ‘we are valuable’ to them. Anything that targets at a Deaf person, is a very serious issue and that needs to be stopped. Anything that you can think of, that is aiming at, becomes a target which is audism. It can be based on a personal experience, a system, a group of people, and so on. Day 22 MURAL/BANNER (A) Meaning: a mural refers to being pride at what you did and do, to expose to the hearing world. What do you want the hearing world to see? You make a mural, to carry that to a rally, or to a conference, or to a presentation or to just hang it up in your own living room wall. Be creative! Examples:

Day 23 RALLY (A/R) Meaning: come to think of what you dream to do, you wish to do, you want to do, at a rally. Examples:

Day 24 TREE STUMP (A) Meaning: tree stump is a lifetime thing, for example when it is chopped down, there is left a stump. You can sit on it, put a pottery there, make a statue, you name it. For a Deaf culture or Deafhood, what do you want to put there on a tree stump? Examples:

16 Day 25 STAGE (R) Meaning: this refers to being on stage. Having a stage fright? You feel spotlighted? All eyes on you? Be creative. Examples:

Day 26 ILY (A/R) Meaning: ILY is everywhere. Do you get sick of seeing ILY symbols at sales booths? What about art/cultural appropriation like pincause did of ILY pins? Anything you can think of. Affirmation or resistance. Examples:

18 This is to give you a better idea to prepare for your 28 Days in February challenge and to understand more on the categories of AFFIRMATION and RESISTANCE.

CATEGORY DEFINITIONS

-AFFIRMATION (A) refers to Deaf identity, Deafhood, Deaf History, Deaf Pride, ASL. AFFIRMATION represents aesthetics and authentic expressions of the Deaf/DeafBlind experiences. There is a whole list of ideas to be proud of and to express that in art. Motifs: ASD (American School for the Deaf), , Deaf club, sunrise, intersectionality, etc.

-RESISTANCE (R) refers to truth telling, the expression of the truth that can show a wake-up calling, or to understand where that was coming from. For example, what had happened to you when you were mainstreamed or what had happened to when his tongue got bruised. This is also quite educated for hearing people who have no knowledge about the Deaf culture and history. Motifs: clock, institution, beggars, ruler, brick, etc. It also refers to Deaf individual based on Deaf experiences from the past or present that a Deaf person could no longer hold back, is one way to expose that to the world. To let go of the past experience, to express frustration or anger, to express the truth and/or to put it to a closure or better yet to understand your own Deaf experience.

-(A/R) refers to either pick AFFIRMATION or RESISTANCE category for a motif.
