OK, so these are two separate releases, on two separate formats, on two separate labels, from the same band – and, rabies and mentalmen, before your very eyes, using nothing but my mysterious journalistic powers, I am going to combine two reviews into one. Think of it like Jesus feeding the 5000, but backwards, and of course way more impressive. Now behold - Pentagram Gorgoroth Best £5.44 Gorgoroth – scary band, scary make-up, scary people and of course a scary sound. As the title of their live CD states, they are indeed True Norwegian Black Metal and they absolutely stick to the dictionary definition. As such, extreme tempos, violent riffing, throat-ripping vocals, terminal blastbeats and principally Norwegian (and satanic) lyrics are very much the order of the day. As are Privacy Information spiky wristbands, bullet belts, corpsepaint, baphomet motifs and inverted crosses.

The CD is somewhat short in my ‘umble opinion at just eight tracks, but what they lack in length they Beck - Modern Guilt certainly make up for in effort and technique (fnaar!) with a set of well-constructed, faithful and XX Teens - Welcome To Goon Island utterly commited black metal. The “Black Mass Krakow 2004” is perhaps slightly better value for money though, featuring a 13 song set (2 of which are from a show from back in 2000) though Scars On Broadway - Scars On Broadway relatively little in terms of extras. Again, despite this the performance itself is excellent, extremely The Chemical Brothers - Brotherhood tight, and the stage set is also utterly fitting and very well thought out, so perhaps they just thought it Ben Harper And the Innocent Criminals - Lifeline as well to trim the fat. If you want to lay yer mitts on some tip top quality black metal, Gorgoroth Misery Signals - Controller should be on your shopping list.
