Thanks! Grand Prix 4 is the latest evolution of the Grand Prix series, which I started writing over 10 years ago. Machines and techniques have changed a lot since then. For example, the sheer scale of the project has increased enormously. Over 60 man-years of effort alone have gone into the game since Grand Prix 3 was released in 2000! With Grand Prix 4, you’ll see a huge leap forward in the look of the game, with the inclusion of a new graphics engine specially designed to use all the power of modern graphics hardware support. And for the first time we use actual GPS survey data to make the racetracks as accurate as possible – the same road layout, width, height, gradient and camber, as well as the all-important kerb shapes and profiles, should now be there just like real life. But some things stay the same – as always our endeavour is to produce something that is as authentic as possible, while still being as playable as possible. We hope that as you take the chequered flag after winning an exhilarating and exhausting race, you’ll agree that - like it says on the box - nothing gets closer! 22222 3 NOTICE GP4 02/02 GB 27/02/2002 12:42 Page 4 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM : CONTENTS Operating System: Windows ® 95/98/Me/XP 4 Processor: Intel Pentium ® II 400 MHz or equivalent Memory: 64 MB RAM/ Video: 16MB System Requirements Hard disk space: 500 MB free CD-ROM drive: 4X Speed 4 Video: DirectX 8.0 compatible Video Card Installation Sound: DirectX 8.0 compatible Sound Card DirectX: DirectX 8.0 6 RECOMMENDED : Controls Operating System: Windows ® 95/98/Me/XP Processor: Intel Pentium ® III 750MHz or equivalent 7 Memory: 128 MB RAM or more/ Video : 32MB Hard disk space: 720 MB free Getting Started CD-ROM drive: 4X Speed Video: DirectX 8.0 compatible 3D Card 17 Sound: 100% DirectX 8.0 Hardware Accelerated Sound Card with EAX Support Cockpit Controls DirectX: DirectX 8.0 21 INSTALLATION Camera Views • Insert the Grand Prix 4 CD into your CD-ROM drive. • Predicting Race Results Using Artificial Neural Networks
1 Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics & Computer Science Predicting Race Results using Artificial Neural Networks Eloy Stoppels M.Sc. Thesis December 2017 Supervisors: prof. dr. M.J. Uetz (UT) Discrete Mathematics and Mathematical Programming Department of Applied Mathematics Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science University of Twente P.O. Box 217 7500 AE Enschede The Netherlands 2 Abstract In this thesis Artificial Neural Networks are used to predict Formula One finish results. The last four races of the season 16/17 are predicted based on the first seventeen races. The first part of this thesis is dedicated to the theory behind Artificial Neural Networks. The aim is to give readers insights in the world and terminology of artificial neural networks. All the important terminology is discussed and explained, using some simple examples. Furthermore some key aspect are discussed in more depth. We look at what the influences of multiple layers and multiple neurons are. We make clear why a deep neural network is used. The next key as- pect we discuss is; 'training an artificial neural network'. During training the free parameters are optimized. This optimization is done by solving a minimization problem. Therefore, training an artificial neural network can be done by using state-of-the-art optimization methods. Other key aspect are the different activation functions and cost functions which are used in artificial neural networks. Lastly, we explain how possible errors during training can be avoided by using so called regularization methods. The second part is dedicated to the experimental research. First we give and explain public available data which we use as prediction features.

ACES WILD ACES WILD The Story of the British Grand Prix THE STORY OF THE Peter Miller Motor racing is one of the most 10. 3. BRITISH GRAND PRIX exacting and dangerous sports in the world today. And Grand Prix racing for Formula 1 single-seater cars is the RIX GREATS toughest of them all. The ultimate ambition of every racing driver since 1950, when the com petition was first introduced, has been to be crowned as 'World Cham pion'. In this, his fourth book, author Peter Miller looks into the back ground of just one of the annual qualifying rounds-the British Grand Prix-which go to make up the elusive title. Although by no means the oldest motor race on the English sporting calendar, the British Grand Prix has become recognised as an epic and invariably dramatic event, since its inception at Silverstone, Northants, on October 2nd, 1948. Since gaining World Championship status in May, 1950 — it was in fact the very first event in the Drivers' Championships of the W orld-this race has captured the interest not only of racing enthusiasts, LOONS but also of the man in the street. It has been said that the supreme test of the courage, skill and virtuosity of a Grand Prix driver is to w in the Monaco Grand Prix through the narrow streets of Monte Carlo and the German Grand Prix at the notorious Nürburgring. Both of these gruelling circuits cer tainly stretch a driver's reflexes to the limit and the winner of these classic events is assured of his rightful place in racing history.

The work investigates minimum lap time problems of race cars. A careful mod- elling activity is carried out first, with different levels of complexity both in the vehicle and road models. The problem is then transcribed in a form suitable for the solution as an NLP problem, using the software GPOPS-II. The solution is then achieved by means of an optimizer used for large scale problems, namely IPOPT. A validation of the numerical model against road tests is provided, together with a focus on the results and peculiarities resulting from the different modelling ap- proaches.

  • Geoff Crammond
A Virtual One To One with Geoff Crammond Interview By James Connors question one : Geoff, many people know you for your well-established works in games such as the much loved Grand Prix series, Stunt Car Racer and Revs to name just a few of the titles you have worked on over the years . In your day-to-day world , do people still refer to you as Sir Geoff with a knowing nod :) or is it just plain old Geoff down your local golf course ? The number of people that I know who call me “Sir Geoff” now is about the same as it was back in the day. question two : As a programmer do you still get the urge to dally in projects or is that now a thing of the past? I am still programming and working on this and that because I just enjoy it. I have done a lot of projects involving things that interest me. I do all my programming in C++ these days. I never had the time to learn to use it I was working on F1. Now I really like it. Everything is so much easier to implement than when using assembler. Programs are easier to structure and develop and debug. I have also written 3D programs that run on the iPhone and iPad so I am reasonably up to date. question 3 : With modern Racing simulators such as Assetto Corsa / RFactor 2 and Iracing currently leading the field have you ever thought that you could come out of your self imposed "Racing Sim creator" exile and give the new kids on the virtual block a run for their money? One of the projects I did a few years ago was to convert my assembler version of the GP4 sim and AI to C++ so it wouldn’t become totally dead code.
