MV Loch Seaforth was launched in Flensburg, Germany, on 21 March 2014. The vessel was named by Joan Murray, a daughter of the late Captain John Smith of the original MV Loch Seaforth, that linked with Mallaig and Kyle of Lochalsh from 1947 until 1972. The vessel takes its name from the sea loch between . Measuring 117.9 meters long, MV Loch Seaforth has capacity for up to 700 passengers and 143 cars or 20 commercial vehicles and the superior design and the new enhanced technical reliability ensures a faster and quieter vessel with greater fuel efficiency. The vessel has a service speed of 19.2 knots. The internal accommodation of MV Loch Seaforth has been designed for maximum passenger comfort, with the Observation Lounge at the bow and the two external decks towards the stern, providing passengers with spectacular views of the islands and the West Coast mainland.
