TECHNOMIC’S 250 TOP-GROSSING CHAINS P. 5 6

RESTAURANTBUSINESSONLINE.COM HERE’S NO DENYING THAT 2016 WAS A ROUGH YEAR FOR CHAIN . Same-store sales slowed, hitting full service especially hard. Fast casual’s sales growth fell below 10% for the frst time in years. And major concepts lost ground to regional brands and independents. Still, over half of the industry’s $521.9 billion comes from the Top 500 chains—and nearly 94% of those dollars and 93% of those units are represented in the Top 250. Here, we dive into Technomic’s Top 500 Chain Restaurant Report with insights from the wins and losses of these giants.
