Metro & state: OU’s Kay Felder a Cousy award finalist

Men’s basketball: Oakland’s Kay Felder is one of 10 finalists for the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award. The award recognizes the top point guard in Division I. Felder, a 5­foot­9 junior from , is vying to become the first player in NCAA history to lead the nation in points and assists per game. He is third in points (25.6) and first in assists (8.7). The winner will be named at the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show in Los Angeles on April 8. Trey Burke of won the award in 2013.

Women’s basketball: Oakland guard Taylor Jones was named Horizon League freshman of the week. Jones, a Detroit native, scored five of her 12 points down the stretch, including a crucial three­pointer and game­ winning lay­up with 22 seconds left, to help the Golden Grizzlies beat Green Bay, 58­56. ... Wayne State guard Shannon Wilson was named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference South Division player of the week. Buy Photo Wilson scored 29 points in a 72­66 win over Walsh.

Led by coach Javan (Sugar) Hill, a Kronk contingent drove into the area and made the delivery to a store in nearby Burton. Flint is undergoing a water crisis, with high levels of lead leaching into tap water from corroded pipes. Flint super star and bronze medalist Andre Dirrell already had donated thousands of dollars to the fund­raising efforts for the city.

Women’s lacrosse: GLIAC coaches picked Grand Valley State to win the conference title in a preseason poll. The Lakers have won all three regular­ season and GLIAC tournament titles since the sport’s inception in 2013. Tiffin was second and Findlay third in the voting. Each team will play 12 conference games. The Lakers open conference play March 24 when they host McKendree.

Obituary: The Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association issued a statement of condolence over the death of longtime Detroit sports reporter and broadcaster Don Kremer. Kremer, a lifetime member of the DSBA, worked at WWJ­TV (Channel 4, later WDIV) and WWJ­AM, and was part of the broadcast teams for the Tigers and U­M football in the 1970s. Kremer also was a reporter for the Associated Press and Detroit News. Kremer, a Michigan State graduate, was 83 and had lived in Clarkston since retirement, according to the DSBA release. Memorial arrangements were pending.
