Nearly 300 references on the subject, published since the mid-19th century are listed in this bibliography. Keywords: Bibliography, insect vectors, mycophagy, spores. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Robert Fogel is research assistant with Department of Botany and Plant Pathology, Oregon State University, Corvallis, and collaborator with the Pacific Northwest Forest and Range Experiment Station. For well over a century, certain insects have been known to feed on fungal fruiting bodies. Spore-eating insects have been presumed to be vectors of the fungi eaten. Only recently, however, have spores been demonstrated to remain viable after passage through an insects digestive tract (Leach et al. 1934, Nuorteva and Laine 1972). These works have reawakened interest in the role of insect mycophagy in dissemination of pathogenic, mycorrhizal, and other fungi. References in this bibliography are intended to provide an entry into the insect mycophagy literature. For brevity, most papers cited by earlier reviewers are not listed individually in this bibliography; i.e., papers cited by Hingley (1971), Benick (1952), Graham (1967), Weber (1972b), and Weiss (1921). The few references that I could not personally verify are marked with an asterisk and are cited as found in secondary sources. The most frequently reported insect mycophagists are either Diptera, mainly Mycetophilidae or Phoridae, and Coleoptera, separable into bark beetles and other beetles. -

The biology and life cycle of this insect were studied in a laboratory and under natural weather conditions. The results showed that similarly to Hessian fly, barley stem gall midge has two feeding instars and a third non-feeding instar. The generation time was longer for barley stem gall midge than for Hessian fly (45 vs 32 days at 18 ± 1°C, and a 12:12 (L: D) h photoperiod). The eggs of barley stem gall midge hatched in 7 days compared to 4 days for Hessian fly. The largest discrepancy in developmental time was for second instar and pupa. Second instars and pupae of barley stem gall midge required twice as long as those of Hessian fly to develop and molt into next stage (12 vs. 6 days). Gall Midges (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) of Cádiz Province (South-Western Spain)

Abstract: In the period 2004-2011 103 gall midge species of 37 genera were found at 63 localities in Cádiz province, south- western Spain, all of them belonging to the subfamily Cecidomyiinae. Together with 14 species found by earlier authors, the present gall midge fauna of Cádiz province includes 117 species, representing about 40% of the Iberian fauna of this group. 21 species are new to the Iberian Peninsula, whose known gall midge fauna thus includes 282 species. 11 species pre- viously known only from Portugal are here recorded from Spain for the first time. The known Spanish fauna now includes 261 gall midge species. We also found nine undescribed species that we identified only to genus level and will be described in the future. An analysis is made of the species’ frequency: Phyllodiplosis cocciferae comes out as the most frequent species in Cádiz province. The distribution types of the species are also analysed; in this connection two species stand out: Asphondylia salso- lae, a Euro-African species and the newest addition to the known gall midge fauna of the Iberian Peninsula, Spain and Europe, and Dasineura gleditchiae, the only alien species, of a Nearctic origin. Gall midge gallswere found on 27 new host plant species, some of them endemic to Spain.
