Section 3, "Language Trends," examines some controversial r trends in English vocabulary, and some developments too new to have received comment before. The fourth section, "Language Politics," treats several aspects of linguistic politics, from special attempts to deal with the ethnic, religious, or sex-specific elements of vocabulary to the broader issues of language both as a reflection of the public consciousness and the U.S. Constitution and as a refuge for the most private forms of expression. • The Land of the Lion
The Land of the Lion BY W. S. RAINSFORD Illustrated from Photographs New York Doubleday, Page & Company 1909 HUNTING IN AFRICA 107 I remember a friend of mine, who had spent three months in Rhodesia, showing me the result of his trip with pride. I was ignorant then of African game, and so was duly impressed. I know, now, there was scarcely one head in the lot worth keeping. He, however, only brought back what he had shot himself, for he was a good sportsman; but the truth is, very many of the bags reported are not made by the men returning them. The professional hunter does much of the shooting, and not seldom skins, tusks, and horns, are bought. It is not hard to forget (at least, some seem to find it easy) what you yourself have or have not shot. But is that sort of thing sport ? I am not speaking from haphazard hearsay, but from things that I know. I have often seen a would-be salmon fisher on our own rivers, sit reading a novel hour after hour, day after day, in his canoe, while his expert Indian threw a good fly over his shoulder. When the fish was hooked then the sportsman played it, and landed or lost it as the case might be. It takes more than money to make a sportsman. Enough said perhaps on an unpleasant subject. In the second place, game is not at all as plentiful as it was even in Africa. You cannot expect to stroll out of camp about eight o'clock, after a late and heavy breakfast and run across what you came out to get.

Reed Department of English Whereas non-Native American fictional fearsome figures tend to produce anxiety from their resistance to categorization, their unpredictable movement, and their Otherness, many contemporary Native American writers re-imagine fearsome figures and monstrous systems as modeled after, and emergent from settler-colonial transgressions against Indigenous values and relationships: these behaviors spread to tribal people/s through incorporation or assimilation into the “body” of the fearsome figure. Such violations can be represented by, and better understood, through an exploration of the behavioral traits of the Algonquian figure of the 2 Windigo, or wétiko, even when the text in question would not be classified as horror. In the Indigenous works of fiction that this dissertation explores, villainy is depicted as behavior that destroys balance, and disrupts the ability for life to reproduce itself without human mediation or technological intervention. In this dissertation, I develop and apply “Windigo Theory”: an Indigenous literary approach to reading Indigenous fiction, especially intended to aid recognition and comprehension of cultural critiques represented by the fearsome figures.

May 4, 2020 Dear Parents and Incoming Seventh Graders, We are excited about our active and engaging reading curriculum at Greenhill and regard summer as a great opportunity for our students to read every chance they get. The attached list of titles offers exciting journeys into worlds like and very unlike our own and will, we feel sure, enrich your children’s imagination and broaden their social awareness. All students must read the required book Unbroken: An Olympian’s Journey from Airman to Castaway to Captive, by Laura Hillenbrand. Please note that this is the author’s ADAPTATION for Young Adults of her original book. Taking notes in their copy of Unbroken is required for incoming seventh graders who were at Greenhill in sixth grade. For students who are new to Greenhill, this is not required. In addition to Unbroken, each student needs to read a minimum of two more books not previously read from the attached list. The other two selections will be the spur for activities and assignments in the fall. All of us hope that you and your child will have a relaxing summer full of good books and the time to read them. • WARHAMMER LEGENDS Over the Years, Many Warhammer 40,000 Fans Have Amassed Huge Collections of Forge World Miniatures for Use in Games of Warhammer 40,000
WARHAMMER LEGENDS Over the years, many Warhammer 40,000 fans have amassed huge collections of Forge World miniatures for use in games of Warhammer 40,000. Today, some of those classic models are no longer available, and their rules no longer feature in current publications. So, to enable you to unleash your models on the tabletop, forever, their rules are provided here as Warhammer Legends. On the following pages you will find a mixture of datasheets and additional wargear options for a range of factions. Used alongside those factions’ respective publications, these allow you to field certain legendary models in your games. The rules here can be used in any type of play – open, narrative or matched – and full points are provided to help you balance your forces. Warhammer Legends will not form part of our ongoing balance review for the wider Warhammer 40,000 game – and we don’t recommend Legends units for competitive tournaments. This means that event organisers and attendees alike can guarantee that everything they’re gaming with is easily available to everyone and has been subject to the same rigorous balance and playtesting process. Of course, organisers are also free to specify that they will be including Legends rules if they like, allowing the use of the full classic range at their event. 1 CONTENTS Space Marines Storm Chimera .................................... 55 Renegade Ogryn Beast Handlers ....... 98 Datasheets .............................3 Aquila Lander ...................................... 56 Renegade Ogryn Brutes ...................... 99 Chaplain Venerable Dreadnought ........4 Valkyrie Sky Talon ............................... 57 Renegade Plague Ogryns .................. 100 Lord High Commander Carab Culln ..5 Arkurian Stormhammer ..................... 58 Renegade Chaos Spawn ...................
