Since the work of J.J. Heckel (1846-1849), the number of valid species has increased significantly and the systematic status of many of the species has changed, and reorganization and updating of the published information has become essential. Here we take the opportunity to provide a new and updated checklist of freshwater fishes of Iran based on literature and taxon occurrence data obtained from natural history and new fish collections. This article lists 288 species in 107 genera, 28 families, 22 orders and 3 classes reported from different Iranian basins. However, presence of 23 reported species in Iranian waters needs confirmation by specimens. -

Abdul-Ameer** * Tegnervägen 6B, Katrineholm 641 36, Sweden ** Department of Biology, College of Education (Ibn Al-Haitham), University of Baghdad, Baghdad, Iraq. e-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT Surveying 59 references concerning the occurrence of the monogeneans of the family Diplozoidae parasitizing fishes of Iraq showed the occurrence of 15 valid species of this family which included one species of Diplozoon, one species of Eudiplozoon and 13 species of Paradiplozoon. In addition to these species, some unidentified adult and larval (diporpa larvae) specimens of the genus Diplozoon were reported from 12 fish hosts among which four fish species showed no infection with any of the nominated diplozoid species while the others showed mixed diplozoid infections. These diplozoids were reported from 27 fish host species in Iraq. All the diplozoids were recorded from freshwater habitats except one Dipolzoon sp. which was recorded from a marine habitat. Hosts recorded for each of these diplozoids ranged from a minimum of one host in case of both P. ergensi and P. tadzhikistanicum to a maximum of 13 hosts in case of P. kasimii. Among the infected fishes, 13 hosts harboured only one diplozoid species each while a maximum of 10 diplozoid species were reported from both Aspius vorax and Cyprinion macrostomum. INTRODUCTION Members of the class Monogenea include small hermaphroditic flat worms that parasitize fishes and other aquatic animals. They infect fins, skin and gills of freshwater and marine fishes (Duijn, 1973). -

Hamdan3 1Tegnervägen 6B, 641 36 Katrineholm, Sweden 2Department of Biology, College of Education for Pure Science, University of Baghdad, Iraq 3Department of Biology, College of Education for Pure Science, University of Tikrit, Iraq *Corresponding author: [email protected] Abstract: Literature reviews of reports concerning the parasitic fauna of fishes of Salah Al-Din province, Iraq till the end of 2017 showed that a total of 115 parasite species are so far known from 25 valid fish species investigated for parasitic infections. The parasitic fauna included two myzozoans, one choanozoan, seven ciliophorans, 24 myxozoans, eight trematodes, 34 monogeneans, 12 cestodes, 11 nematodes, five acanthocephalans, two annelids and nine crustaceans. The infection with some trematodes and nematodes occurred with larval stages, while the remaining infections were either with trophozoites or adult parasites. Among the inspected fishes, Cyprinion macrostomum was infected with the highest number of parasite species (29 parasite species), followed by Carasobarbus luteus (26 species) and Arabibarbus grypus (22 species) while six fish species (Alburnus caeruleus, A. sellal, Barbus lacerta, Cyprinion kais, Hemigrammocapoeta elegans and Mastacembelus mastacembelus) were infected with only one parasite species each. The myxozoan Myxobolus oviformis was the commonest parasite species as it was reported from 10 fish species, followed by both the myxozoan M. pfeifferi and the trematode Ascocotyle coleostoma which were reported from eight fish host species each and then by both the cestode Schyzocotyle acheilognathi and the nematode Contracaecum sp. -

Received: May 2012 Accepted: December 2014 Abstract In this study, for the first time in Iran, the karyotype of bigmouth Lotak, Cyprinion macrostomum Heckel, 1843, was investigated through examining metaphase chromosomes of seven fish with mean weight 30±5g caught by electrofishing from Godarkhosh River in Ilam Province. To stimulate cell divisions, fish were injected intraperitoneally two times by phytohemagglutinin (PHA). The cell divisions were arrested in metaphase stage by intraperitoneal injection of colchicine. Well-separated cells were obtained from kidney and gill filament and chromosome spreads were prepared and stained with giemsa. Karyotype was obtained as 2n=50. The karyotype consisted of 5 metacentric, 12 submetacentric and 8 telocentric chromosome pairs. N. viridis ’in yarı doğal ve doğal ortamda, A. orontis ’in ise doğal o rtamda sivrisinek larva predatörü olduğu belirlenmiştir. Denemelerde Anopheles sacharovi Favre, Culex pipiens Linnaeus ve Culiseta annulata (Schrank) türlerinin larvaları kullanılmıştır. Yarı doğal koşullarda N. viridis ’in günde, 24 -28 sivrisinek larvası tükettiği belirlenmiştir. Tercihin Cs . annulata > Cx . pipiens > An . sacharovi şeklinde olduğu anlaşılmıştır. Doğal koşullarda hem N. viridis hem de A. orontis ’in bütün sivrisinek larvaları üzerindeki predasyonunun olumlu olduğu anlaşılmıştır. It has been determined that N. viridis in semi natural and natural conditions and A. orontis in natural conditions are predators of mosquito larvae. In predation experiments, the larvae of Anopheles sacharovi Favre, Culex pipiens Linnaeus, and Culiseta annulata (Schrank) were used. It observed that N. viridis can consume 24-28 mosquito larvae per day in semi-field conditions. In view of the preference experiments it has been determined that Notonecta consumes in order of Cs . annulata > Cx . pipiens > An . sacharovi . The current status of the inland waters ichthyofauna of Turkey is revised, and an updated checklist of the freshwater fishes is presented. A total of 368 fish species live in the inland waters of Turkey. Among these, 3 species are globally extinct, 5 species are extinct in Turkey, 28 species are non-native and 153 species are considered as endemic to Turkey. We recognise pronounced species richness and a high degree of endemism of the Turkish ichthyofauna (41.58%). Orders with the largest numbers of species in the ichthyofauna of Turkey are the Cypriniformes 247 species), Perciformes (43 species), Salmoniformes (21 species), Cyprinodontiformes (15 species), Siluriformes (10 species), Acipenseriformes (8 species) and Clupeiformes (8 species). At the family level, the Cyprinidae has the greatest number of species (188 species; 51.1% of the total species), followed by the Nemacheilidae (39), Salmonidae (21 species), Cobitidae (20 species), Gobiidae (18 species) and Cyprinodontidea (14 species). -

Received: November 2013 Accepted: June 2014 Abstract During a survey of Gahar Lake and Gahar River from 2008 to 2009 some specimen obtained by seasonal sampling in 6 stations, 3 stations in the lake and 3 stations in the river. Three different methods were used for sampling, gill net and hook in the lake and electrofishing in the river. Due to the results 3 species from 2 families in Gahar Lake and 12 species form 3 families in Gahar River were identified. Most of the fish species belonged to Cyprinidae and Salmonidae families. Distribution and abundance of species were recognized. Oncorhynchus mykiss in Gahar Lake and Capoeta damascina in Gahar River had the most abundance. One species was not fully identified and currently reported as Squalius sp. Oxynoemacheilus kurdistanicus and O. chomanicus are new records for Turkish inland waters. Yukarı Dicle Nehri Havzası Balık Türlerinin Son Durumu ve Dağılım Alanları ve Türkiye Tatlısuları için İki Yeni Kayıt Özet Dicle Nehri’nin yukarı havzasının balık faunasını ortaya koymak amacıyla Haziran 2006 ve Kasım 2015 tarihleri arasında araştırma yapılmıştır. Araştırma sırasında 10 familyaya ait (Cyprinidae, Nemacheilidae, Sisoridae, Siluridae, Heteropneustidae, Bagridae, Salmonidae, Mugilidae, Poeciliidae, Mastacembelidae) 40 tür tespit edilmiştir. Tam olarak tanımlanamayan bir tür Squalius sp. olarak bildirilmiştir. Oxynoemacheilus chomanicus ve O. kurdistanicus türlerinin Türkiye tatlı suları için yeni kayıt oldukları saptanmıştır.
