Professional Experience

Since summer 2012 Director for Shipping , Ministry of Maritime Affairs & Insular Policy being responsible for general Shipping Policy and Shipping Economic issues, for shaping national shipping policy as well as for bilateral maritime relations, for issues related to maritime economics and the established in Greece shipping companies, for the International Organizations and European Union and for the Greek registry.

From 2005 to 2012 served as Head of Unit for International Organizations and European Union issues, Ministry of Shipping, Maritime Affairs & the Aegean, responsible for shaping maritime policy within the context of international organization and the European Union and representing Greece in various international organizations and within the EU context.

From 2002 to 2005 served in the European Commission, DG MOVE as policy officer responsible for international shipping policy issues and maritime external relations.

Since 1994 served as policy officer at the extremely demanding Shipping Policy and Development Directorate, dealing with European Union and International Organizations issues.

Since 1991 officer of the Hellenic Coast Guard after graduating with honors from the Hellenic Naval Academy.

International Representations.

Having represented Greece and the European Commission for more than 20 years in various international maritime related fora like:  the United Nations  the Council of the European Union - Shipping Working Party & Trade Policy Committee  the International Maritime Organization,  the OECD - Maritime Transport Committee - Fiscal Committee,  the World Trade Organization, and also  within the context of bilateral maritime negotiations with various countries.

As Director for Shipping has co-ordinated during the recent Hellenic Presidency of the European Union Council in 2014 the maritime related activities including the adoption by the Council of the E.U. of the “Athens Declaration” on European Maritime Policy issues.

Currently being national representative among others: (a) to the Council and the Assembly of the International Maritime Organization, (b) to the European Maritime Safety Agency Administrative Board / Chairman of the Administrative & Finance Committee of the EMSA Administrative Board, (c) High Level Focal Point for the European Integrated Maritime Policy and (d) the Consultative Shipping Group.

International Maritime Organization Experience

 Chairman of Committee 1 (Financial, Legal & Administrative Affairs) of IMO Assembly 28th session in 2013.  Since 2006 representing Greece in the IMO Council and Assembly.  Responsible for shaping national policy positions for the IMO Assembly, Council, Legal Committee, FAL Committee, Technical Co-operation Committee.  Responsible for the ratification of IMO Conventions (LLMC Convention, SUA Convention, Athens Convention).  Participating since 1995 in various IMO Sub-committees, Committees and intersessional working groups as well as IMO Diplomatic Conferences.
