THEMATIC ROUTES Images Water, the archetypal and essential human resource par excellence, has been depicted in all cultures since the dawn of humanity up to the present of Water day. Its wide range of symbolic, sociological, literary and aesthetic Esther Moñivas Mayor connotations within the history of Western painting means that it can be approached from the viewpoint of numerous different issues. These include man’s relationship with nature and conquest of it, our vulnerable position midway between the fertility and destruction that give rise to natural resources, spirituality and ancestral rites associated with the elements, the relationship between water and the female, and pure enjoyment of its contemplation. The present tour of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection spans the 14th to the 20th centuries through a selection of “images of water” that will introduce us to a wide range of expressive landscapes. We will be seeing lakes, with their reflections that so fascinated painters, springs and rivers associated with biblical and mythological stories, unknown seas or ones whose raging waters have tested the courage of seafarers to the limit, majestic winter landscapes, ports and scenes of leisure activities. These are just a few of the themes that the painters in question have bequeathed to us, inviting us to reflect on and look at water in the context of our daily surroundings in a new way. Prueba de ello son los restos de arte rupestre y yacimientos paleontológicos descritos en muchas cuevas o el creciente número de visitantes anuales que tienen. Sin embargo, en las últimas décadas los equipos de científicos y espeleólogos se han ocupado especialmente del karst en términos de cifras, con especial énfasis en grandes cavidades. Bien, atendiendo al tamaño de las mismas en su desarrollo horizontal o vertical, o de forma parcial, midiendo volúmenes de galerías y conductos, cámaras o espeleotemas, entre otros elementos. Existen exhaustivos rankings de los sistemas de cavidades de mayor longitud total de galerías exploradas, de las salas más grandes, de las cuevas más profundadas o de los espeleotemas más grandes en su tipo. Esto ha condicionando que, por un lado, exista un auge en la investigación de los sistemas endokársticos más grandes del mundo, y por otro, que paisajes superficiales kársticos espectaculares del Planeta hayan pasado a un segundo orden en cuanto a el interés científico o turístico. -

This study explores the impact of divers and snorkelerson the reefs of St. Lucia, West Indies, and how the reef environmentaffects tourists' perceptionsand experiencesof them. Observationsof divers and snorkelersrevealed that their impact on the reefs followed certainpatterns and could be predictedfrom individuals', site and dive characteristics.Camera use, night diving and shorediving were correlatedwith higher levels of diver damage.Briefings by dive leadersalone did not reducetourist contactswith the reef but interventiondid. Interviewswith tourists revealedthat many choseto visit St. Lucia becauseof its marineprotected area. GROUND WATER POLLUTION POTENTIAL OF ERIE COUNTY, OHIO BY KELLY C. SMITH ERM-MIDWEST, INC GROUND WATER POLLUTION POTENTIAL REPORT NO. 16 OHIO DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES DIVISION OF WATER GROUND WATER RESOURCES SECTION JUNE, 1994 ABSTRACT A ground water pollution potential mapping program for Ohio has been developed under the direction of the Division of Water, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, using the DRASTIC mapping process. The DRASTIC system consists of two major elements: the designation of mappable units termed hydrogeologic settings, and the superposition of a relative rating system for pollution potential. Hydrogeologic settings form the basis of the system and incorporate the major hydrogeologic factors that affect and control ground water movement and occurrence including: depth to water, net recharge, aquifer media, soil media, topography, impact of the vadose zone media, and hydraulic conductivity of the aquifer. These factors, which form the acronym DRASTIC, are incorporated into a relative ranking scheme that uses a combination of weights and ratings to produce a numerical value called the ground water pollution potential index. Hydrogeologic settings are combined with the pollution potential indexes to create units that can be graphically displayed on a map. Erie County lies within the central lowlands physiographic province and consists of two physiographic sections: the Eastern Lake Plains section and the Till Plains section (Fenneman, 1938). The county is covered by a variable thickness of glacial till, lacustrine deposits, and outwash. These unconsolidated glacial deposits are underlain by Bedford shale, Berea sandstone, and limestone. Ground water yields are dependant on the type of aquifer and vary greatly throughout the county. -

Earl Stewart, the Tongass Forest Supervisor is the responsible official for the Draft ROD and FEIS for the POW LLA Project. These objections supplement the more extensive objections submitted by Earthjustice on behalf of SEACC and others on December 21, 2018. Based on the corrected legal notice published in the Ketchikan Daily News on November 16, 2018, these objections are timely. SEACC and ACAT submitted timely, specific, and substantive comments regarding the proposed project on the draft EIS for this project on June 18, 2018. We submitted those comments via both email and direct mail. For purposes of 36 C.F.R. § 218.8(d)(l), the objecting parties may be reached via the SEACC contact information indicated in the signature block. For purposes of 36 C.F.R. § 218.8(d)(3), SEACC is the lead objector. I. POW LLA PROJECT'S CONDITION-BASED PLANNING APPROACH VIOLATES NEPA. However, there is still a poor understanding of detailed sedimentary mechanisms operating in these systems in western Florida. Fillman’s Creek is a microtidal estuary in western Florida that contains two sub-tidal sinkholes, with an urbanized watershed around its periphery. Given the close proximity (~500 m) of the two sinkholes, Huck’s Hole (HCK) and Sawyer’s Sink (SYR), one would expect coherent sedimentation patterns at each site (e.g., texture, structure, and inputs). However, the two sinkholes have different sedimentation patterns and sedimentation rates, which indicate different processes likely control sedimentation in these two sites. The different sedimentary constituents at each site dictated that different methods of textural analysis were used for each site (e.g., laser particle size analysis, classic loss on ignition). Chronological control was established with radiocarbon dating and 137Cs activity in the sediment cores. Organic matter particles and lenticular and horizontal sand deposits dominate the stratigraphy in HCK, and a 6 m sediment core spans 1942 CE to present. -

DEMA 2000 marks one year since the sale of DeepTech by my two ex-business partners. Being the original founder of DeepTech, the news of its sale without my knowledge or approval kinda, well lets say: rubbed me the wrong way. Not only was I concerned about all the years and thousands of hours of work I put into DeepTech but also about the subscribers who had paid their money for a subscription and now would not receive what they shelled out their hard earned cash for. My reputation not only as a publisher but also as a respected diver was immediately at stake. Knocked back to step one after all these years was a hard blow but also a blessing in disguise. When I started DeepTech I had no connections, no advertisers and very little money. After 4 years in circulation I had thousands of connections, good rapport with my advertisers, and a little more money to start over from square one. Advanced Diver Magazine was born with no business part- ners, many of the same advertisers and a data base of good subscribers available. One year has passed and the small staff at ADM has delivered what we had prom- ised. An on-time, high quality, fully illustrated dive magazine like no other. Designed with a good balance of text, illustrations, photos and less than 20% advertising. ADM will continue into the new millen- nium providing what we promised our subscribers with the quality and graphic design that I expect as the founder and publisher. After all, my reputation is at stake.
