    From Russia with corks TASTING ARTICLES RUSSIA A clutch of Russian wines turned out to be rather impressive. A Belgian wine importer contacted me to suggest I tasted some Russian wines he is currently importing into Europe. Dimitri Bonte's company Start2taste is based in Waregem. Last November he imported into Europe what he claims is the first container of wines from the Krasnodar region on the Black Sea to the east of Crimea (see this map). This was the region I visited back in 2009 and I seem to remember some muttering about incomers. (See, for instance, Russian wine gets real.) According to Bonte, the wines have been going down well in Belgium and are evidence of a new generation of wine producers in this, the most vine-friendly corner of Russia. I put on my most sceptical armour before tasting this case of a dozen samples from two producers, Burnier and Lefkadia, but I must say I was most agreeably surprised, as you will see from the tasting notes below. And not only did the wines taste good, some of them, particularly those from Lefkadia, also looked particularly good. Some of the reds are above right, some whites, with the perfect wine glass plus condensation, below. Lefkadia was established in the village of Moldavanskoe in 2006 by Mikhail I Nikolaev, who visited the region two years earlier and thought it looked just like Tuscany. Many tests and analyses of the local clay, limestone and sand later he planted vines and built a winery. He claims his technique of chilling grapes to between 4 and 8 ˚C before pressing and gravity-flow winery are unique in Russia.

De pretparken zijn voor Studio 100 een belangrijke bron van inkomsten. Daarnaast maakt de groep 2 tot 3 films per jaar, goed voor 1 miljoen kijkers. De programma’s van Studio 100 zijn in Vlaanderen te zien op VRT, VTM, Nickelodeon, vtmKzoom en Studio100.tv. In 2010 werd ook de kookzender Njam! opgericht, initieel samen met topchef Peter Goossens maar die stapte al snel uit. Studio 100 verkocht al meer dan 5 miljoen cd’s in de Benelux en is ook de drijvende kracht achter onder meer Free Souffriau. In 2011 zette Studio 100 een belangrijke stap in de VS. Na kerst volgt nieuwjaar, dan is het Valentijn en voor je het weet zie je de eerste paasversieringen opduiken in het straatbeeld. Veel tijd om te rusten is er niet, want na de ‘terug-naar- school’-vakantieperiode staat haalt de medemens zijn mooiste pompoenen, schedels, hek- senkostuums en vals spinnenrag boven om Halloween te vieren. Nog een tussenstop bij de goedheilige man Sint-Nicolaas en de kerstboom kan weer van stal – pun non intended. Wat dit alles nog met traditie, sfeer, gezelligheid en godsdienst te maken heeft, is steeds minder helder. Duidelijk is dat de reclamejongens een gat in de markt hebben gevonden. Wat volwasse- nen onder elkaar uitspoken, daar heb ik nooit mijn zaak van gemaakt. Maar dat de mar- ketingadviseurs nu hun pijlen op de meest naïeven onder ons richten, wringt wel. Kinderen onder de twaalf jaar hebben nog niet de kennis om een reclameboodschap kri- tisch te ontcijferen. Dat blijkt uit eerlijk, onafhankelijk onderzoek. Toch manen de bedrij- ven hun marketingadviseurs aan om op de meest agressieve en slinkse wijze de jonge wezentjes van hun onbezorgdheid te beroven. In België is het niet anders. Een ultracommercieel bedrijf als Studio 100 wist zich recht in de harten – én in de spaarpotten – van de kinderen te nestelen. En het imperium dijt steeds verder uit. Met dit eindwerk hoop ik op zijn minst sommige ogen te openen.

Date : 8 november 2015 Hoeveel is de format K3 waard voor Gert Verhulst en Hans Bourlon, de eigenaars van Studio 100? De drie originele K3's, Karen, Kristel en Kathleen, hielden samen 6,7 miljoen euro over aan hun 16-jarige carrière. Nemen we aan dat ze gemiddeld 10 procent opstreken van het geheel, dan leverde de format aan Studio 100 over die periode 60,3 miljoen euro op. Nu de format op kruissnelheid zit, kunnen we stellen dat K3 Studio 100 jaarlijks 7 tot 8 miljoen euro aan omzet kan opbrengen, goed voor een bruto winst van 2 miljoen euro. Het eerste opstartjaar kan die omzet oplopen boven de 10 miljoen euro. Op voorwaarde dat Marthe, Klaasje en Hanne de format kunnen dragen. "Wij bepalen wat ze gaan zingen, waar ze gaan optreden en wat ze gaan doen. Dat is ook vooraf duidelijk doorgesproken met de meisjes, ze weten heel goed waar ze aan beginnen, zo zei Gert Verhulst in het VTM-nieuws. Ik ben er ook van overtuigd dat, als het succes van K3 blijft aanhouden, dat zij er een zeer rijk gevulde boterham aan zullen verdienen." Wanneer de format goed draait, zullen de nieuwe K3's wellicht goed verdienen. Maar zeker is dat het niet zoveel zal zijn als de originele K3. Door de format te vernieuwen in een quiz keert Studio 100 de rollen in vraag en aanbod om. De meisjes zijn nu vragende partij in plaats van de Studio.

    ^ CASTILLON CÔTES DE BORDEAUX The continuous property of 12 hectares is situated on a clay-limestone terroir on the right bank of the Dordogne. It occupies a privileged position on the plateau of Sainte-Colombe, little town East of Saint-Emilion, full of history with the remains of a Roman villa and its mosaics, as well as a classified Romanesque church from the 12th century. This very ancient property belonged to the Roque family since the Louis XIII period, shared many times and always reconstituted. The last descendant of this family Philippe Le Roy coming from a long ancestry of winemakers and barrel carpenters will be the one that will pass on the baton. Château Le Rey was bought by a trio of friends in 2016; Peter Kwok (Hong Kong, Château Tour Saint Christophe, Château Haut-Brisson, Château La Patache, Enclos Tourmaline), Philippe Lam- brecht (owner of the great Belgian wine import company, Wijnhandel de Brabandere, and owner of Bodega Mas Alta in Priorat) and Jean-Christophe Meyrou (Bordeaux, Director of Vignobles K). The average age of the vines is 30 years and the conduct of the vineyard follows the philosophy of our other properties in order to meet the environmental balance. Today two cuvées are produced at Château Le Rey, Les Argileuses and Les Rocheuses. These two wines do not represent as usual in Bordeaux first and second label, but are made like in Burgundy with a terroir philosophy. Les Argileuses are produced from a green and blue clay terroir and Les Rocheuses from 100% limestone terroir.
