The Southern Pacific Division stop of the National Challenge series was hosted by the Cal Club region and pulled in an outstanding 70 drivers. Sun and heat were the order of the weekend and just to insure the events unique- ness, thrown in was a late afternoon solar eclipse. The SoPac National Challenge use the accumulat- ed time of twelve runs, six on Saturday and six on Sunday to determine the winners. In the PA class winners! Stock Front Wheel Drive class, Bill Martin and Danny Downey battled closely through the first day. On the second day Bill Martin more than made up his 5 second deficit, dominating in the Sunday morning muddy conditions. First year RallyCrossers fill the Stock Rear Wheel drive class where the two leaders Tom Kwasniak and Ken Lord traded individual runs. Event officials adjusted the race line up leaving five groups plus one for time trials. Clear sunny skies and warm temperatures set the stage for a fantastic weekend of action packed racing. A highlight of the weekend tested the skills of F&C Specialist Candye Rucker. Candye was quick to respond to a burning Corvette during the first race Sunday morning. Flagger Candye Rucker took control of Matt Merrill’s burning Matt Merrill was on fire and Corvette Sunday morning during the first race of the day.
