Celebrities Who Give Us Nightmares Reality Show Fame Can Be Lucrative (Just Look at Bethenny Frankel) but It Can Also Go Horribly Wrong Dorothy Pomerantz, Forbes Staff I write about Hollywood and run the Celebrity 100 List. BUSINESS 10/31/2012 @ 2:08PM Celebrities Who Give Us Nightmares Reality show fame can be lucrative (just look at Bethenny Frankel) but it can also go horribly wrong. Spencer Pratt made a splash with his villainous performance on The Hills, but since then his career hasn’t work out quite like he had hoped. Instead of writing books, starting a fashion line and producing more TV, Pratt ended up standing by Heidi Montag’s side while she underwent multiple plastic surgeries to turn herself into the world’s saddest living Barbie doll. Perhaps that’s why the public sees Pratt as the creepiest Just in time for Halloween, here are the celebrities who creep America out the most, based on survey celebrity out there, according to E-Poll Market data from E-Poll Market Research, whose E-Score Research. E-Poll’s E-Score Celebrity service ranks more Celebrity service ranks more than 6,000 celebrities on awareness, appeal and 46 different personality than 6,000 celebrities on public awareness, appeal and 46 attributes. Its survey results show that in different personality attributes. When asked to rate Pratt, Hollywood, no one is as scary as reality show stars. 49% of survey respondents said they found him creepy. Another reality star who creeps us all out: Courtney Stodden. The teen is best-known for marrying 50- year-old actor Doug Hutchinson when she was only 16. Somehow, these two are still getting publicity. Maybe it’s because of the way Stodden dresses. Or maybe it’s her interview face. Stodden and Hutchinson are currently crazying it up on VH1′sCouple’s Therapy. Fans find it hard to turn away from the Stodden train wreck but 37% of survey respondents said Stodden is creepy, ranking her sixth on our list of the creepiest celebrities. Donald Trump doesn’t rank on our creepy list, but he likes to surround himself with creepy types who make for good reality TV. Two of the “stars” returning to The Celebrity Apprentice for an all-star season make our list: Gary Busey (third place) and Dennis Rodman (ninth). Busey was one of the most entertaining cast members in his season onApprentice, with his explosive personality and apparently addled brain providing comedy. Unsurprisingly, he didn’t win. Maybe this time around. The 10 Celebrities Who Give Us Nightmares 1 Spencer Pratt Creepy rating: 49% Maybe the reason no one cares very much about Hills villain Spencer Pratt anymore is that he's just gotten too creepy. Pratt's reality show fame is far behind him at this point. 2 Michael Lohan Creepy rating: 47% A mug shot is never helpful for getting people to like you. Lindsay Lohan's father can't seem to stay out of trouble. He's being sued by boxing promoter Damon Feldman, who says Lohan owes him money. 3 Nadya Suleman Creepy rating: 41% Suleman got famous for giving birth to eight babies at once, but it didn't turn out to be the lucrative business she was hoping for. The mother of 14 recently checked herself into rehab. 4 Gary Busey Creepy rating: 41% He's not too creepy for Donald Trump. The mogul just announced Busey will be back for an all-star version ofCelebrity Apprentice. 5 Stephen King Creepy rating: 40% King himself isn't that creepy, but he knows how to give people the creeps. His horror stories like Carrie and The Shining are perfect Halloween reading. 6 Courtney Stodden Creepy rating: 37% Few things are creepier than watching Stodden, 18, make out with her 52-year-old husband Doug Hutchison. But now you can get your creep on weekly. The couple is currently on VH1's Couple's Therapy. 7 Ozzy Osbourne Creepy rating: 34% If you call yourself the Prince of Darkness people are bound to find you creepy. Biting bat heads doesn't help. But in recent years, Osbourne has become better known for being a doting father than a heavy metal maniac. 8 Michelle 'Bombshell' McGee Creepy rating: 34% Extreme tattoos can be creepy looking but McGee is really best known for helping to break up Sandra Bullock and Jesse James' marriage. And then there were those Nazi photos ... 9 Denis Rodman Creepy rating: 33% Donald Trump doesn't make our list but he's clearly attracted to creepy people. Like Busey, Rodman is is returning toThe Celebrity Apprentice for an all-star version. 10 Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino Creepy factor: 33% What makes The Situation creepier than his Jersey Shore costars? Maybe it's the fact that he's older than the rest of the gang or maybe it's just that he gets more publicity. .

BODY TYPE: TYPOGRAPHIC TATTOOS or HOW I BECAME A TATTOO EXPERT WITHOUT REALLY TRYING By Ina Saltz, author of “Body Type: Intimate Messages Etched in Flesh” (Abrams Image, 2006) MY INVOLVEMENT WITH THE WORLD OF TATTOOS began in the most unlikely of ways. I was traveling cross-town on the M86 bus when I spotted an interesting-looking young man with a large text-only tattoo on his right forearm; it spelled out “happy” in a typeface which I instantly recognized as Helvetica. The fact that it was in lower-case letters and so tightly kerned that the letters were touching was especially intriguing to me as a designer and a typophile. I had never seen a tattoo quite like this one—sans serif! Not being in the habit of talking to strangers in New York City, I debated mightily before approaching him...but my curiosity finally got the better of me. “Are you a graphic designer?” I asked. Why, yes, he was. “And would you mind if I took a photo of your tattoo to show my students? I teach typography at City College.” No problem. I whipped out my digital camera and managed to get one shot and to grab his proffered business card before I jumped off at my stop. That evening I uploaded the photo and went to the Web site on his business card to send him the image with a proper thank you message. Imagine my astonishment to find our entire conversation recounted on his blog! As often happens when encountering something new, having seen one typographic tattoo, I now started to see them everywhere (it was August and a lot of skin was visible).

As language teachers we are in a curious and unique position. We do not have a fi xed subject in the same way that the history teacher teaches history or the geography teacher teaches geography . The language teacher teaches grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, speak- ing and listening skills, but these are all “how”. They are not “what”. Consolidated as the girl power discourse and girls in crisis discourse, the tension between these two intertwined discourses created a space for new narratives of female adolescence in the decade between 1995 and 2005. As sites of cultural construction and representation, teen films reveal the narratives of girlhood. The films under consideration serve as useful exemplars for an examination of how such discourses become mainstreamed, pervading society’s image of female adolescence.

New York Law Journal March 31, 2014 Monday Section: EXPERT ANALYSIS; p.3, col.1; Vol. 251; No. 60 Length: 2006 words Byline: Elizabeth McNamara And Samuel M. Bayard Body I n February, former Mob Wives star Karen Gravano filed a right-of-publicity lawsuit against the makers of Grand Theft Auto V, claiming that they misappropriated her image and life story for a character in the popular video game. Being a colorful story, even the New York tabloids took notice: The hit video game "Grand Theft Auto V" is illegally imitating life, according to a former "Mob Wives" star.-Daily News1 The makers of "Grand Theft Auto" better hope they don't wake up next to a horse head.-New York Post2 Media lawyers were interested too. Not because Ms. Gravano is a reality star, or because she's the daughter of Salvatore (Sammy the Bull) Gravano, a famous mobster who turned state's evidence. Not even because Grand Theft Auto is one of the most successful videogame franchises around. Media lawyers took notice because this case is one more in a string of recent cases raising a significant common question: To what extent does the law protect the rights of content creators- writers, filmmakers, musicians, visual artists, photographers, and yes, videogame makers-to draw on real-life individuals and events to create expressive works? For years this was a relatively settled issue particularly in New York, and creators took comfort that they were largely protected from right-of-publicity claims. This status quo has been upended with a growing spate of successful suits against expressive works elsewhere in the country.

Still a classic today, the film grossed millions at the box office and began Lohan’s rise to fame. Her success in the Disney film led to the opportunity to star in other movies from the major motion picture company, including Freaky Friday and Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. In 2004, Lohan starred in what is known as one of the greatest chick flicks ever made. Tina Fey’s Mean Girls became the highest grossing movie that year and earned the young actress a few awards for her role as Cady Heron. With yet another box office hit, her career was at a high, and her growing fan base allowed her to expand her career into music. She released two albums in 2004 and 2005, which were both a success. During her Disney days, Lohan dated singer Aaron Carter from 2002 to 2003 and they were a hot celebrity couple.
