Sporet er fylt av skiglede. Uten skigleden, ingen skisport. Ingen vinnere på jakt etter gull. Ingen tilskuere langs løypene. Ingen turgåere i skog og mark. Ingen barn i bakkene. Det ligger et spor foran oss. Også i de neste århundrer vil vi se det fylt av mange skiløpere. Gode skiløpere. Glade skiløpere. Som setter spor etter seg. Istället för Freestyle har namnen New School, Freeride, Twin Tip och Jibb används för att förklara företeelsen. Begreppen handlar efter ordningsföljden om något nytt, något fritt, skidans utformning och att åka slarvigt/svårdefinierat eller att visa motstånd. Idag heter sporten Freeskiing. Begreppet Freeskiing syftar som det låter på fri skidåkning och tävlingar genomförs med stor hänsyn till den frihetliga principen. En del av sportens rötter härstammar från Freestyle och dess grenar Aerials (hopp) och Moguls (puckelpist) samt tidigare Acro Ski (skidbalett). Ytterligare en del härstammar från snowboardåkning där tävlingar idag hålls i likadana eller liknande tävlingsarenor som för Freeskiing. En viktig punkt som skiljer Freeskiing från Freestyle och för det närmare snowboard är bedömd åkning och framför allt rotationer åt två håll. Detta utgör en konkret del av bedömningsgrunden där variation och progression omöjliggör en förbestämd högst poäng. Tävlingsgrenarna inom Freeskiing inbegriper inom parkskidåkning Big Air, Halfpipe och Slopestyle. I en större kontext omfattas också Big Mountain (storabergsåkning) och andra, mindre tävlingsformat. Av nämnda grenar är Halfpipe och Slopestyle discipliner i de Olympiska Spelen sedan den 22:a upplagan i Sotji, Ryssland. I dagsläget förs en diskussion inom den Internationella Olympiska Kommittén, IOK och det Internationella Skidförbundet, FIS att inkludera Big Air i nästkommande OS 2018 i Peyongchang, Sydkorea. -
