Box 410505 recorded from the tropical or agricultural landscape of Northern Western Ghats. There was Harpaphe haydeniana correlated to the each species of millipede which were found in Northern Western Ghats S.V. Theurkar region of Rajgurunagar. At the time of diversity study, Trigoniulus corallines were observed more than Senior Research Fellowship, other millipede species, which supports the environmental determinism condition. India E-mail: [email protected] ORCID: 0000-0002-4926-2496 Abstract Mating behaviour of Chondromorpha severini, a polydesmid millipede was studied in the field and in the laboratory condition. Copulating pair follows the general rule of love play before actual act of coitus. Mating duration varied from one to 25 minute with an average of eight minute. Mating frequency was maximum in early and late hours of day. In the multiple mate preference experiment, 10 pairs of male and female were used to calculate preference index (Pi) of individual sex. Preference index varies from 0.65 to 0.91. The implication of multiple mating has been discussed in detail. E-mail: [email protected] Abstract Pseudonannolene ambuatinga n. sp. and Pseudonannolene saguassu n. sp. are described from individuals collected in limestone caves in the municipality of Pains, Minas Gerais, Brazil, which comprises a scenario of great conflict between speleological preservation and limestone extraction. The two species differ in their gonopod morphology and in size and color. Pseudonannolene ambuatinga n. sp. is regarded as the second troglobite species known for the family. This is the first report for Brazil of syntopy in two congeneric species in the same cave. Key words: Diplopoda, Pseudonannolene, Cave, Brazil, Conservation, Neotropics, Troglobiotic Introduction The genus Pseudonannolene Silvestri, 1895 is often found in Brazilian caves of different lithologies (Mauriès 1974; Fontanetti 1996a; Trajano et al. 2000; Ferreira 2004; Trajano & Bichuette 2010; Souza-Silva et al. 2011; Iniesta & Ferreira 2013) and is thus considered as typically troglophile, establishing populations in both the external and subterranean environment (Culver & White 2005). -

Farfan 2010 Abstract The focus of this thesis is the ecology of invasive millipedes (Diplopoda) in the family Julidae. This particular group of millipedes are thought to be introduced into North America from Europe and are now widely found in many urban, anthropogenic habitats in the U.S. Why are these animals such effective colonizers and why do they seem to be mostly present in anthropogenic habitats? In a review of the literature addressing the role of millipedes in nutrient cycling, the interactions of millipedes and communities of fungi and bacteria are discussed. The presence of millipedes stimulates fungal growth while fungal hyphae and bacteria positively effect feeding intensity and nutrient assimilation efficiency in millipedes. Millipedes may also utilize enzymes from these organisms. In a continuation of the study of the ecology of the family Julidae, a comparative study was completed on mites associated with millipedes in the family Julidae in eastern North America and the United Kingdom. The goals of this study were: 1. To establish what mites are present on these millipedes in North America 2. To see if this fauna is the same as in Europe 3. To examine host association patterns looking specifically for host or habitat specificity. -

USA. Abstract: The present catalogue lists all 162 species of diplopods, living or fossil, so far known from Hispaniola. Treatment of higher taxonomic categories follows Hoffman's (1980) proposals. For each species considered there is information on synonymy, holotype and paratype localization, collector, date, country (Haiti or Dominican Republic) and geographic distribution. Included are some annotations and species with uncertain taxonomic status are indicated. All bibliographic references on the taxonomy of the island's diplopods are included. Introduction Of the diversity of post-insemination associations between the sexes in the insects [1], prolonged copulations dominate in the diplopods [2-21]. In most species, males maintain genital contact far beyond the time needed only for insemination of the female. There is preliminary evidence for mating plugs where males transfer secretory materials that seal or hinder access to a female’s reproductive tract [22]. There is no mate grasping and mate monitoring in the Diplopod as there is in the insects [1]. The only alternative hypothesis is the possible prevention of rival ejaculates from competing with sperm already donated to a partner. -

It was tested in the millipede genus Centrobolus with reversed sexual size dimorphism (SSD). Two factors were measured from eight Centrobolus species -- body lengths (mm) and widths (mm). Centrobolus female widths were positively related to longitude (r=0.6474, r2=0.4191, n=8, p=0.082656). The squat species, C. digrammus occurred at the western tips of South Africa (18.433°E) while thinner species, C. inscriptus and C. anulatus were found in east (31.716°E).
