At no stage in the Club”s history has the relationship between ‘ ‘ ideal’ ’ and ‘ ‘reality’ ’ everbeen straightforward. What is the 1 IN 12? Indeed conflict overwhose ideals and which reality has often thrown the Club into deep internal conflict. The diversity ofinterests, priorities andexpectationsofthe membership, “Where ’s the Gaffer mate? ” empowered by the open and active process 01:’ decision making. has often come with “Wh0’s in charge?” a price. Sometimes members have left. disillusioned and perhaps occasionally bitter. “Can I see the manager? ” but this is the uncomfortable reality oftaking responsibility and control.
