AEK Athens FC V Paris Saint-Germain FC MATCH PRESS KIT OACA Spyro Louis, Athens Wednesday, 14 February 2007 - 21:45 Local Time Round of 32, First Leg - Matchday 6 AEK Athens FC v Paris Saint-Germain FC MATCH PRESS KIT OACA Spyro Louis, Athens Wednesday, 14 February 2007 - 21:45 local time Round of 32, First leg - Matchday 6 Contents 1 - Match background 5 - Match-by-match lineups 2 - Squad list 6 - Competition facts 3 - Match officials 7 - Team facts 4 - Domestic information 8 - Legend Match background The stage is set for Paul Le Guen to make a dramatic European comeback as Paris Saint-Germain FC visit AEK Athens FC in the UEFA Cup Round of 32. • AEK qualified for the Round of 32 as the third-placed side in UEFA Champions League Group H. PSG finished second in UEFA Cup Group G. • The clubs met in a 1996/97 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup quarter-final tie. The first leg in Paris was drawn 0-0, but a Patrice Loko hat-trick in the second sent the French team through to the semi-finals, where they beat Liverpool FC before losing the final 1-0 against FC Barcelona in Rotterdam. • Newly-appointed PSG coach Paul Le Guen played in both legs of that tie. The former defensive midfielder also played his first games in European competition against Greek opposition as PSG beat PAOK FC 5-0 on aggregate in the 1992/93 UEFA Cup first round. • This game against AEK will be Le Guen’s first European match in charge of PSG since taking over from Guy Lacombe on 15 January. The coach joined after leaving Rangers FC by mutual consent. The Scottish club face Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC in this round. • PSG have played five games against Greek sides, with Le Guen playing in all but one of them – a 4-0 win against Panathinaikos FC in this season’s UEFA Cup group stage. PSG have yet to lose, or concede a goal, against Greek opposition. • AEK have met French opposition on 15 previous occasions in the course of five knockout ties, two UEFA Champions League group stage campaigns and a UEFA Cup group stage. They lost all five knockout ties, but finally beat a Ligue 1 representative (LOSC Lille Métropole 1-0) in this season's UEFA Champions League. • In total, AEK's record against French sides reads won one, drawn six and lost eight. • AEK midfielder Akis Zikos will be reunited with a host of former team-mates from his time at AS Monaco FC between 2002 and 2006. PSG midfielders Marcelo Gallardo, Edouard Cissé and Jerôme Rothen all played alongside Zikos at the Stade Louis II. Last updated 14.02.2007 19:39:19CET www.uefa.com Page 1 AEK Athens FC v Paris Saint-Germain FC MATCH PRESS KIT • AEK coach Lorenzo Serra Ferrer's only previous experience against French opposition came as the Spaniard led his Real Betis Balompié side to a 3-2 aggregate loss to Monaco in the 2005/06 UEFA Champions League third qualifying round. • The second leg will be played on 22 February. The aggregate winners will face SL Benfica or FC Dinamo 1948 Bucuresti in the Round of 16, playing the home leg on 8 March and the away second leg a week later. Asian tournament and they had hoped a victory would be an apt send-off for their captain yesterday Agencies Tehran avi Hernandez’s dazzling career came to an anticli- mactic end when his side Al Sadd were beaten 2-0 by XIranian giants Persepolis in their last group match of the AFC Champions League yesterday. The 39-year-old midfi eld genius, who won the World Cup with Spain in 2010 besides helping Barcelona win two UEFA Champions League and eight La Liga titles, was cheered by poster-carrying fans at the Azadi Sta- dium in Tehran where already elimi- nated Persepolis put on an improved display to register only their second win in six matches. Xavi was also honoured by the Persepolis management, but Al Sadd’s second defeat in a row, following their 4-1 thrashing by domestic rivals Al Duhail in last week’s Amir Cup fi nal in Persepolis supporters carry a poster of Xavi at the Azadi Stadium in Tehran Doha, must have left him with mixed yesterday.
