All formats – series, telemovies, documentaries, etc – are picked up and brought to the small screen, as a response to the many and various timeslots that have arisen on channels the world over. In this regard, Televisió de Catalunya has been one of the first broadcasters in this country to create a specific slot in their programme wherein they have already broadcast more than fifty titles, and this has in turn encouraged even more of this type of production. Our telemovies and TV series, known for getting close to their target audiences, are also a nurturing ground for new talent, and their high quality has led to inclu- sion in the programmes of many international festivals. Catalan Made For TV productions are a perfect example of the fact that there are no lesser formats. In this catalogue you will find all the most recent proposals. Une Courtisane qui est « l’emblème de la réussite » n’est pas une prostituée car elle ne fait pas commerce de son corps pour gagner de l’argent. Elle choisit son amant. Elle n’est cependant pas reçue dans le meilleur monde. C’est le début des Cabarets et du French Cancan où les danseuses montrent leur culotte à une époque où la femme ne montre que sa cheville (un costume de bain est composé de 9 pièces !).

In the series analysed there is a persistence of males playing the leading roles, as well as a reiteration of female stereotypes. In the case of the Catalan television dramas on TVC (El cor de la ciutat, Ventdelplà and Infidels) a more positive treatment of femininity could be observed in the series dealing with social customs.

Agustina Otero nait le 4 novembre 1868 à Valga, petite bourgade de Galice au nord-ouest de l’Espagne, juste au-dessus du Portugal. La petite Agustina, qui ne s’appelle pas encore Caroline, a des origines extrêmement modestes, même assez misérables. Sa mère élève seule ses 6 enfants, tous de pères différents et, pour certains, de pères inconnus. Dans le village, on chuchote que le père d’Agustina serait le curé, un certain Caraudan. Mais l’affection réelle qu’il porte à cette petite n’est pas suffisante pour fonder une certitude de paternité. Après la mort du compagnon qui avait partagé quelques années de sa vie, la mère d’Agustina mène une existence encore plus misérable avec pour seul revenu la récolte de pommes de pin qu’elle ramasse autour du village. Elle est obligée de se prostituer de temps en temps pour assurer la subsistance de sa famille. A l’âge de 11 ans, Agustina connaît le premier drame de sa vie.
