Bap Sm of Christ, 1655. Bartolomp D Phone: (225) 387-5928 Vol. 88, No. 2 Email: [email protected] Second Sunday in Ordinary Time Website: cathedralbr.org January 8, 2017 Bapsm of Christ, 1655. Bartolom VG;J %`1CCQ8 ! Worship with Us From the Pastor’s Desk Masses Saturday Dear Parishioners and Friends, Anticipated Mass of Sunday 4 pm The Church’s liturgical year now moves into the short Sunday period of “Ordinary Time” that’s observed between the 8 am, 10 am (with choir), & 12 noon Christmas season and Lent. It will last just a bit more than 6 weeks, for Ash Wednesday falls on March 1 this year. Weekdays (Monday-Friday) 12:05 pm Holy Days As announced But this Sunday morning is hardly an ordinary one in downtown Baton Rouge! It’s the weekend of the Louisiana Marathon . Confessions This means that on January 15 the area around the Cathedral will be Saturday 3 to 3:45 pm visited by some 6,000+ runners, and other friends and family members Weekdays 11:30 am who are dropping them off, cheering them on, and celebrating with them Always on request when they finish. Running starts at 7 am, and some won’t be finishing until the afternoon, so we can all pretty much expect to be inconvenienced during all of our Sunday morning Masses. Contact Us So what to do? I recommend that if you’re coming to worship with us Office at the Cathedral this weekend, plan to arrive early , for we’ll only be able 412 North Street to control access to the limited number of parking spaces in our own lot. Baton Rouge, LA 70802-5496 Parking further away in a garage or on the street probably will mean a bit Monday-Thursday of a walk for you! And above all, be a good sport! The extra noise, crowds, 7:30 am to 12 noon & 1 to 4:30 pm traffic and parking problems of this event only come around once a year: I Friday 8 am to 12 noon know our Parish family is “cool” enough to handle it! Telephone Usually this kind of thing happens on Saturday : as you know, the 225-387-5928 closed streets and crowds of carnival season and Christmas parades Fax sometimes necessitate canceling our Saturday Vigil Mass. But rearranging 225-387-5929 our Sunday schedule is more difficult. Fortunately, the Marathon is the only thing each year which is so disruptive, so it’s easier just to grin and Email bear it! Thanks for understanding. offi[email protected] Last weekend on the Solemnity of the Epiphany, a couple of people asked me, “How come our crèche set does not have the figures of the 3 wise men ?” The answer is kind of simple: no one has yet offered to Personnel and Staff purchase these statues. I’d love to get them, along with the camel, the ox Bishop and the donkey – and yet, even the elephant! – but the Fontanini figurines Most Rev. Robert W. Muench, D.D. in that size are quite expensive. Yes, by that I mean several thousand [email protected] dollars per statue. We can’t use capital or maintenance funds for such Pastor items, and our operating budget frankly does not have a lot of “extra” in it Very Rev. Paul D. Counce, J.C.L. for seasonal art. [email protected] This being said, I don’t mind putting the question out there: is anyone Director of Administration interested in donating such an important part of our Christmas décor? Or Mrs. Sheila G. Juneau perhaps sharing the cost of one with other donors? Give me a call or send [email protected] me an email if you are or know of someone who might be: it would be a Receptionist wonderful gift to the Cathedral and a magnificent blessing for such a generous soul.
