Charbel… 5th Sunday in Ordinary Time February 9, 2020 My dear parishioners and friends, “Peace be with you!” (St John Paul II and the Eucharist) Prayer was the rhythm of St John Paul’s life. Someone said: “While walking from place to place inside the Vatican or outside, prayer became as natural and vital to him as his breath”. Even though he loved to communicating with God with an incessant prayer, the best and favorite place to pray for him was before the Blessed Sacrament. One of his collaborators said that, the union with our Eucharistic Lord allowed the Pope “"not merely to speak to Christ, but actually to converse with him." When he was a bishop, he told his friend one time that, for each person, the true meaning of the Eucharist consists on the fact that “we have two people in one another’s presence: Our Lord and me” he said. The true and authentic prayer for him is when we desire to be as attentive to God in the adoration chapel as He is to us. And under the species of the bread and wine, God is present to us, in His Body and Blood, and in His Soul and Divinity, as he always confessed it. The Eucharist was the principal reason for his priesthood. He said, "For me, the Mass constitutes the center of my life and my every day. Saint John Paul didn't merely offer the Mass. He lived it as we say, and became, as we pray on the Eucharistic prayer at the Mass, “a living sacrifice” offered to the Father for the salvation of the world. " He wrote: “The Eucharist is the secret of my day. It gives strength and meaning to all my activities of service to the Church and to the whole world… Let Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament speak to your hearts. It is he who is the true answer of life that you seek. He stays here with us: he is God with us. Seek him without tiring, welcome him without reserve, love him without interruption: today, tomorrow, forever”. (to be continued) 5th Sunday in O.T.
