We will prepare inks for silkscreen prints and, after the design, we will prepare prototype frame where we will impress our design for print on . At the end we will experiment rust, wich is an old italian tradition, to new different effects with block print, silkscreen, katazome print. The first record of Romagna woodblock printing dates back to the end of the 18th century, when it started as a poor man's imitation of , which country people couldn't afford. Fabrics printed in this way were used as household , to decorate cattle on fair days. Linen and hemp fabrics are used, and printing is done with pear-wood blocks. The characteristic rust color is obtained from soft iron suitably oxydised and then mixed with other ingredients. The pattern is impressed on the cloth by striking the woodblock smartly with a mallet. Once dried, the cloth is then soaked in a fixing bath. Catherine Brunel Chapuis will be our guest teacher.
