Abstract Zambia is one of the countries in Africa with a high frequency of land conflicts. The conflicts over land lead to tenure insecurity. In response to the increasing number of land conflicts, the Zambian Government has undertaken measures to address land conflicts, but the measures are mainly curative in nature. But a conflict sensitive land governance framework should address both curative and preventive measures. In order to obtain insights about the actual realities on the ground, based on a case study approach, the research examined the role of existing state land governance framework in improving tenure security in Lusaka district, and established how land conflicts affect land tenure security. The research findings show that the present state land governance framework is malfunctional which cause land conflicts and therefore, tenure insecurity. The research further reveals that state land governance is characterised by defective legal and institutional framework and inappropriate technical (i.e. -

But the malaria global health community agrees it will be disastrous to neglect or underinvest in malaria during this period, and thereby squander a decade of hard won progress. By some estimates, halting malaria intervention efforts could trigger a return to one million malaria deaths per year, a devastating mortality rate unseen since 2004. To that end many of our efforts last year were to strategically advocate for continued global malaria funding, as well as supporting COVID adjustments to ensure malaria projects were not delayed. Last year we supplied Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) to over 700 Rotary-funded community health workers (CHWs) in Uganda and Zambia; altered CHW The training to incorporate appropriate social distancing; conducted several webinars specifically focused on maintaining malaria financial support despite COVID; and we provided $50,000 to the Alliance for Malaria Prevention used for COVID/malaria public education in Africa. ZAMBIA Situation Report Last updated: 15 Jun 2020 HIGHLIGHTS (15 Jun 2020) The first imported COVID-19 case was reported on 18 March 2020 and as of 08 June 1,200 cases have been confirmed, including ten deaths. Out of the country’s 119 districts, 27 have reported cases of COVID-19. Laboratory testing and reagents have been identified as key challenge. Out of the 119 districts, 27 districts have reported COVID-19 cases. The Government of Zambia introduced a series of measures to mitigate against the spread of the virus including closure of regional airports, restrictions of public gatherings of more than 50 people, closures of religious institutes, bars and restaurants. -

Briefly describe any significant highlights/accomplishments that took place during this reporting period. Please limit your comments to a maximum of 4 to 6 sentences. During this reporting period, MCSP Zambia: Supported MOH to conduct a data quality assessment to identify and address data quality gaps that some districts have been recording due to inability to correctly interpret data elements in HMIS tools. Some districts lacked the revised registers as well. Collected data on Phase 2 of the TA study looking at the acceptability, level of influence, and results of MCSP’s TA model that supports the G2G granting mechanism. Data collection included interviews with 53 MOH staff from 4 provinces, 20 districts and 20 health facilities. Supported 16 districts in mentorship and service quality assessment (SQA) to support planning and decision-making. In the period under review, MCSP established that multidisciplinary mentorship teams in 10 districts in Luapula Province were functional. Continued with the eIMCI/EPI course orientation in all Provinces. By the end of the quarter under review, in Muchinga 26 HCWs had completed the course, increasing the number of HCWs who improved EPI knowledge and can manage children using IMNCI Guidelines. In Southern Province, 19 mentors from 4 districts were oriented through the electronic EPI/IMNCI interactive learning and had the software installed on their computers. -

Environment and Social Categorization: 1 Project Code: P-ZM-AA0-017 1. PROJECT BACKGROUND The Luswishi Farm Block Development is an initiative of the Government of Zambia to commercialize agricultural land towards economic diversification and growth, enhance food security and open up undeveloped rural areas while reducing poverty and rural-urban migration. The Government produced the Farm Blocks Development Plan, which has 11 Farm Blocks earmarked for development with total gross area of 895,000 (ha). A Farm Block is a large agricultural area where backbone infrastructure such as feeder roads, electricity, water for irrigation and domestic uses, and communication facilities are provided by Government to stimulate sustainable partnerships with private sector investors in conducting agricultural, agri- business and economic activities. The Farm Block concept comprises a core venture (private sector), large (private sector), medium, and small-scale farms operating under an outgrower arrangement. 1.1 PROPOSED SCPZ AT LUSWISHI FARM BLOCK The proposed Staple Crops Processing Zone at Luswishi Farm Block will comprise a gross area of 100,000 ha of idle land. The project will also cover adjacent smallholder farmers in Chief Shibuchinga and 20,000 ha under Kambilombilo Resettlement Scheme on the north-eastern end of Luswishi. The block is located over 150km from Ndola on the Copperbelt province and 50km from Lufwanyama District centre. The development goal is to contribute to poverty reduction and economic growth through enhanced agricultural production and productivity. -
