The Lack family has been building Cruising Catamarans for the past twenty-five years. Following the successful development with Bill O'Brien of the Bobcat in the TOM LACK sixties, Tom Lack Catamarans Ltd was formed in 1970. The company is located in a delightful boatyard alongside the quay of the Dorset coastal town of Christchurch. Despite its growth in recent years the company remains a family run business headed CATAMARANS by its founders Tom and Mary Lack and their sons Bruce and William. With over 500 Catalacs built and a high proportion still in the hands of the original owners this requirement has been well satisfied by the four boats in the current range. The family feeling has extended to an active owners association which arranges many events including rallies, races and parties which are well-attended. The Catalac 27 (8m) was introduced in 1975 and is the ideal boat for the young family. She sleeps five with one berth in the port hull, two in the saloon and a 4ft 6in double in the master cabin. Sailing performance is remarkable even in the lightest of airs. In no time at all the 8m Catalac 27 can be up on a wave speeding along at 7 knots with more to come if the wind should freshen. Should the wind die altogether, the centrally mounted 25hp outboard long shaft engine will push the boat along at up to 7 knots. A twin inboard engine option is available.

The 10m Catalac 34 is built on hard chine, load carrying hulls, on the lines proven by her sister- ships. Her sail plan is a simple Bermudan rig sloop with slab-reefing on the mainsail and Rotostay furling gear for the headsail. She is fitted with a twin installation of Yanmar 2GM diesel engines, each 18hp, so her performance under power is highly satisfactory and her manoeuvrability excellent. The flagship of the fleet is the Catalac 41 (12m). Passage making aboard this fine craft is an exhilarating experience and slab reefing and jib furling gear ensure ease of handling. The illustration above reveals the spaciousness and comfort of the saloon and the galley is comprehensively equipped. The interior steering position is just aft of the saloon with full instrumentation and dual controls for the twin Yanmar diesel engines. The accommodation provides berths for seven in four separate cabins all with a large quantity of storage and hanging lockers.
