ANNUAL REPORT 2012 & Waikato-Tainui Fisheries Limited & waikato-tainui fisheries limited OUR BUSINESS Our core business is property investment and development. Tainui Group Holdings Limited (TGH) and Waikato-Tainui Fisheries Limited (WTF) are the commercial entities of Waikato-Tainui Te Kauhanganui Incorporated (WTTKI), the Shareholder and tribal authority of Waikato-Tainui. Our role is to deliver commercial returns on assets for the Waikato-Tainui people. This includes assets that were returned by the Crown under the Waikato Raupatu Claims Settlement Act 1995 as redress for raupatu (land confiscation) in the 19th century. TGH’s principal objective is to maximise Shareholder wealth through a sustainable asset portfolio. This is achieved through our core business which is property investment and development. Our strategy of identifying and growing high quality assets to generate income from them, allows us to provide consistent, long- term dividends for the benefit of current and future generations of Waikato-Tainui. These dividends are used by our Shareholder to meet tribal expenditures and for charitable purposes distributed in the form of grants, to Waikato-Tainui marae and registered tribal members for education, welfare, health and social and cultural development. Strong governance of our strictly commercial business model is the cornerstone of our business philosophy. A clear distinction between wealth creation and the responsibilities of distributing wealth has been agreed between us and the Shareholder. The two parties have signed

Nga mihi nui kia koutou, good morning to everyone. We are just about to start this morning with hearing from 5 some of our submitters and I understand that there is to be a slight change in order and we are starting with Miss van Beek first, thank you. MISS VAN BEEK: Good morning. 10 CHAIRPERSON: Good morning, just when you are ready. MISS VAN BEEK: Hello, my name is Anita van Beek and I am just doing my own personal kind of feelings about this submission. So I am not 15 possibly the best prepared for talking here as I have tried to read and understand some of the stuff and it has all been a bit gobbledygook, unless someone was there to explain some of it. So I haven’t have had a lot of time to read all of it, there’s busy jobs and things like that in my own life. 20 So basically this is kind of more my feelings. So, for example, some of the simple things like a “transportation corridor” I interpreted as “roads” but wondered if there was any difference between the two, sometimes it seemed like French to me.

We have come to the conclusion of the 150 year celebrations of Te Kiingitanga and it has indeed been a memorable year. Our people have demonstrated an enduring bond since festivities and commemorations began in May 2008. From the time of its inception, our strength has always been togetherness. Togetherness is both a feeling and a force and it is why Kiingitanga has survived the last 150 years. We cannot predict our future, only plan for it. Where views may differ, we must remain united. As individuals togetherness may have its challenges, however for the next 150 years togetherness will continue to be our greatest strength • Cover and inset: 3 Waikato-Tainui waka tauaa at Waitangi Celebrations 2009, Haruru Falls.
