La Vodacom Cup es el tercer torneo en importancia en el rugby sudafricano, detrás del Súper Rugby (anteriormente llamado Súper 14) y la Currie Cup. O sea que nos estamos refiriendo a un país que es permanente animador de esta especialidad, y que actualmente es el campeón del mundo, por lo que estamos en presencia del máximo nivel competitivo posible en la esfera internacional. Es un hecho particularmente significativo para el deporte argentino ya que se trata del primer título obtenido por un equipo argentino de rugby en una competencia de alcance mundial. Hasta el momento, solo se habían obtenido éxitos en terreno sudamericano. En efecto, en el estadio Olën Park de la ciudad de Otchefstroom, en Sudáfrica, el conjunto denominado Pampas XV se impuso a los locales Blue Bulls (defensores del título) por 14 a 9, logrando la máxima corona en disputa. Las figuras más destacadas de un equipo que se impuso en los once (11) partidos que disputó, fueron el rosarino Juan Imhoff quien aportó 10 tries (fue el máximo anotador en la materia seguido por Agustín Gosio quien logró 8) y el goleador resultó el apertura Nicolás Sánchez, quien alcanzó 85 tantos.
