  • MATCH DAY PROGRAM 19 August 2017
MATCH DAY PROGRAM 19th August 2017 Photo courtesy of AT Photo UPPER HUTT CITY VS WELLINGTON UNITED MAIDSTONE PARK - KO 1:00 PM A message from Gibby . We’ve managed 3 games in 11 days which has been a tough ask for this end of the season, but what an 11 days! First up we had PNM in the Knockout Cup Quarter Final. Leading up to this game we’d won a game apiece, and drawn 1-1 so it was always going to be a tight game. These games are always tough physical battles and this was no exception. Both teams were throwing everything they had into it, which was reflected in the half time score of 0-0. The second 45 was just as tough as the first, and we managed to get on the score sheet when PNM gave the ball away in their defensive third and Lena de Ronde capitalised by driving a cross into the 6 yard box and Emma Main nipped in front of her defender to tuck the ball away. 1-0. PNM are the sort of team that never gives up, and they struck back after a ball over the top was picked up by their striker and they slotted the ball into the far post tying the game up 1-1. Cup matches need a result, and so into extra time we went. Both teams were showing the effects of a long hard tussle, but through sheer grit and determination we pushed forward, and sent a cross into the box for Lena de Ronde to pop up at the far post driving the ball into the net to take us 2-1 up.

To tie in with this historic milestone, the Lotto NRFL will have a new look and feel with the introduction of a logo and further branding, including social media and this weekly programme, for one of the country’s leading club-based competitions. The elements used within the logo refer to various features of the different regions. The wavy lines represent the wide expanses of water that surround Northland, Auckland and the Waikato, including the Waikato River, while the mountains evoke the Waitakere Ranges, Bombay Hills and Kamai Ranges, as well as the numerous volcanoes that are scattered throughout the area. The Harbour Bridge connects Auckland’s southern suburbs with the North Shore and stands proud in the distance of the logo while the history of the competition is reflected in the slogan ’50 Years of Local Pride’. Alex was also a foundation member of the Franklin and Districts Football Association, which became the Counties Manukau Football Association. Alex is a Life Member of the Counties Manukau Football Association. The Counties Manukau Football Association joined with the Auckland Football Association in 2000 to form Soccer2, one of the seven regional Federations in the country (now known as Auckland Football Federation). Auckland Football extend our deepest sympathies to Alex's family and club mates at Manurewa AFC and we thank Alex for the outstanding service he gave to football in our region.
