VS East Coast Bays Lotto Northern Premier Division 2.45pm Manurewa AFC Club Rooms P.O. Box 75 122 War Memorial Park Manurewa Gibbs Rd Auckland Manurewa Phone: (09) 267 1120 www.manurewaafc.org.nz Today we extend a very warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters to the East Coast Bays Club. I trust they enjoy their trip south and look forward to their company in our clubrooms at the after match festivities. Our premier side had a bye last week because of a Chatham Cup round, but the Premier Reserves had a friendly against Three Kings United. It was pleasing to note the reserves at last played to their potential beating three kings 4-1. Well done Stevie and the boys. The game was a chance to blood Andreas, one of our new Danish players, who has been match bound for a couple of weeks. The other Danish player Karsten had his first game last week against Melville. When he was subbed on in the second half he scored the equalising goal in the three all draw. I did not see Andreas game, but if he plays as well as his mate Karsten, then I am sure they will both be a great asset to the team. The over 30’s were held to a nil all draw last week. I have heard that Duncan White scored a great swerving dipping goal from set piece play for the Div 8 side. Everybody else in the club also heard about it and will probably hear about it for weeks to come. Well done Duncan never the less. A bunch of us supporters travelled in the team coach to Melville last game and had a great time. The team played well and had it not been for some more bad refereeing decisions we could have done better than the 3 all draw result. Never the less a point away is a good result. Good luck and good football to all out teams today. Catch you in the next programme. Reserve Coaches Comments First of all a warm welcome to East Coast Bays. It has been a rocky road for us this season especially last week when our coach threw in the towel. But the show must go on, a very big thank you to Simon Bilton and Mark Armstrong for stepping in and helping the boys. Over the weekend we had a friendly game against Three Kings. It was a great game finally we came out on top, with a comprehensive win 4 -1 victory thanks to our new coaching staff. On show was home grown talent and also our new imports Andreas and Karsten. Going back to our last fixture with East Coast Bays. The first half was a evenly matched contest going in 1 nil down, but injuries to our keeper meant tactics had to change but we couldn't adapt and we went down. That's done and dusted, and its a new week new coaching staff, we will be holding our heads high and playing with out hearts on our sleeves. Good luck to the first team lads. Our last outing saw us down at Melville in a game that had a lot riding on it as both teams are looking to maintain in Premier League football next season. We started brightly and deserved our lead and totally bossed the half but yet again defensive uncertainty lead to a penalty which Melville converted 30 seconds before the break. The Second half was more even and we took the lead again only to find ourselves pegged back again by individual errors which we have to start eradicating at such an important part of our season. Melville got up a head of steam and took the lead but we showed our fighting spirit and Karsten Pedersen, who had just arrived from Denmark, grabbed his first goal for the club coming on as a late substitute. You could say a draw was a fair result but in hindsight could have easily come away with 3 points. East Coast Bays will be a test for us today but at home with our fans behind us and a good display we put on in our last meeting, we can get the all important result we need. Onwards and upwards. The draw coming last week 0—0 against Western Springs. This week they play a local derby against Papatoetoe. They currently sit second with the top side having played an extra game. The Div 1 side played Onehunga Sports last week and unfortunately the game got called off due to the Onehunga Sports keeper being injured and requiring and ambulance. We believe the keeper is fine now. Div 8 is sitting 4th on the table after a loss and 2 darws in recent weeks. This week they are playing the top side, Western Springs at home of field 3, 2.45pm. This will be our toughest game of the season. We are still struggling for players but thanks to the Reserves and the Under 17 Metro teams they are fielding a competitive team each week. They have 7 more games so if anyone who has played before and wants a run, let them know. Cheers Gigsy ROAD TRIP TO MELVILLE The day dawned bright but cold as the team and supporters boarded the bus and headed off. On board, we were introduced to our 2 new players from Denmark, Karsten Pedersen and Andreas Jensen who had arrived in NZ the previous evening. It was great that they got to see a bit of our countryside on the way to their first game. Our first stop was in Huntly at the Café beside the river for refreshments and a spot of shopping for some. Back on the bus and we continued to Hamilton CBD where 90% of supporters disembarked for more refreshments, shopping and photo opportunities. At least a dozen more supporters travelled by car and met us at the park.
