Hiroshi Miyazawa? VS Round 18 Saturday 22nd July Official Match Day Programme Kick Off 3 PM Versus Manurewa AFC President's Welcome On behalf of Onehunga Sports Football Club I would like to extend a warm welcome today to Manurewa AFC and their supporters. After winning the Chatham Cup game last Saturday against Melville United, the Club will now take on Birkenhead United in the quarter finals. That game will be played at Shepherds Park on 5th August, with kick off at 2pm. It was good to hear that news of this fixture made the Radio Sport headlines even ahead of rugby. No game is an easy one in the NRFL, however the team will be looking to ensure that the chasing pack of Birkenhead and Glenfield do not get any closer to the leader. Miya returns as Head Coach after his very successful trip to Japan, replacing Leigh Kenyon who guided the team to their win last Saturday. On the opposite page are the new sponsors to the Club and it is great to see the growing corporate support for the Club. Today we have members of our Maungakiekie -Tamaki local board watching the game and we thank you for making the time to come along. We are very keen for you to hear and be a part of the vision for the Club as these are exciting times with the Premiers striving to make history for the Club and our growing player registrations. The committee is very much focused on ensuring the facilities at Waikaraka Park match the expectations of the Club and all of its members. For those of you who would like to go on the coach to the Hamilton Wanderers game (22nd July), we still have seats available at $20. Please let Mark know if you want to book a seat. • MATCH DAY PROGRAM 19 August 2017
MATCH DAY PROGRAM 19th August 2017 Photo courtesy of AT Photo UPPER HUTT CITY VS WELLINGTON UNITED MAIDSTONE PARK - KO 1:00 PM A message from Gibby . We’ve managed 3 games in 11 days which has been a tough ask for this end of the season, but what an 11 days! First up we had PNM in the Knockout Cup Quarter Final. Leading up to this game we’d won a game apiece, and drawn 1-1 so it was always going to be a tight game. These games are always tough physical battles and this was no exception. Both teams were throwing everything they had into it, which was reflected in the half time score of 0-0. The second 45 was just as tough as the first, and we managed to get on the score sheet when PNM gave the ball away in their defensive third and Lena de Ronde capitalised by driving a cross into the 6 yard box and Emma Main nipped in front of her defender to tuck the ball away. 1-0. PNM are the sort of team that never gives up, and they struck back after a ball over the top was picked up by their striker and they slotted the ball into the far post tying the game up 1-1. Cup matches need a result, and so into extra time we went. Both teams were showing the effects of a long hard tussle, but through sheer grit and determination we pushed forward, and sent a cross into the box for Lena de Ronde to pop up at the far post driving the ball into the net to take us 2-1 up.

To tie in with this historic milestone, the Lotto NRFL will have a new look and feel with the introduction of a logo and further branding, including social media and this weekly programme, for one of the country’s leading club-based competitions. The elements used within the logo refer to various features of the different regions. The wavy lines represent the wide expanses of water that surround Northland, Auckland and the Waikato, including the Waikato River, while the mountains evoke the Waitakere Ranges, Bombay Hills and Kamai Ranges, as well as the numerous volcanoes that are scattered throughout the area. The Harbour Bridge connects Auckland’s southern suburbs with the North Shore and stands proud in the distance of the logo while the history of the competition is reflected in the slogan ’50 Years of Local Pride’. The top of the Premier table is looking congested with Birkenhead United, Glenfield Rovers and Hamilton Wanderers all sitting on ten points. Three Kings United are stamping their authority in the Women’s Premier, however Claudelands Rovers, Forrest Hill Milford and Western Springs are all only one win away from the top spot. Newly promoted to Lotto NRFL Division One, Tauranga City United have proven they are more than competitive, their position at the top of the table cemented on Sunday with a 5-0 win over Waiuku. Ellerslie AFC sit in second place but have Forrest Hill Milford and Hibiscus Coast hot on their heels. Two sides in the Women’s Premier, Glenfield Rovers and Three Kings United, are wrapping up their campaigns on Sunday and will be looking to end on a high while Claudelands Rovers can take another step towards the title with a win over Eastern Suburbs. With no ASB Chatham Cup matches to steal anyone’s thunder, the sole focus of local football followers returns to the men’s NRFL action on Saturday and there are a host of vital fixtures in store. The meeting between Hamilton Wanderers and Three Kings is the highlight of the Premier League round as there is so much riding on the outcome for both sides. Wanderers must win to keep the pressure on leaders Eastern Suburbs while Three Kings – plunged deep into relegation trouble after losing points due to a player eligibility ruling this week – are just as desperate for a victory.
