Krishi Mandi, New Palsi Road, Jodhpur-342 005, Rajasthan, India INTRODUctION More than 1500 species of land mollusc are recorded from India. Out of these, twelve species viz. Achatina fulica Bowdich, Ariophanla bajadera (Pfeiffer), Ariophanta ligulata Ferrussac, Ariophanta solata (Benson), Bensonia monticola Hutton, Cryptozona belangiri Deshayes, Cryptozona (Nilgiria) semiru~ata (Seck.), Cryptozona (Xestina) bistrialis Beck., Macrochlamys indica (Godwin-Austen), Opeas gracile (Hutton), Zootecus insularis (Ehrenberg) and Mariaella dussumieri (Gray) are known to cause damage to agricultural, horticultural and plantation crops in India (Raut & Ghosh, 1984; Srivastava, 1992 and Subba Rao, 1975). So far, only two pestiferous land moliusc Opeas gracile (Hutton) and Zootecus insularis (Ehrenberg) are reported from Rajasthan (Subba Rao & Mitra, 1979 and Raut & Ghosh, 1984). Laevicaulis alte (Ferussac) is reported from Udaipur, Rajasthan but not as a pest (Ray & Mukherjee, 1963). The present paper reports for the first time, two more pestiferous land mollusc - Laevicaulis alte (Ferussac) and Macrochlamys indica (Godwin-Austen), as severe pests of neem seedlings in forest nurseries of Rajasthan along with new distributional records. • Biogeography of the Land Snail Genus Allognathus (Helicidae): Middle Miocene Colonization of the Balearic Islands
Journal of Biogeography (J. Biogeogr.) (2015) 42, 1845–1857 ORIGINAL Biogeography of the land snail genus ARTICLE Allognathus (Helicidae): middle Miocene colonization of the Balearic Islands Luis J. Chueca1,2*, Marıa Jose Madeira1,2 and Benjamın J. Gomez-Moliner 1,2 1Department of Zoology and Animal Cell ABSTRACT Biology, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Aim We infer the evolutionary history of the land snail genus Allognathus the Basque Country, 01006 Vitoria-Gasteiz, 2 from a molecular phylogeny. An approximate temporal framework for its colo- Alava, Spain, Biodiversity Research Group CIEA Lucio Lascaray, 01006 Vitoria-Gasteiz, nization of the Balearic Islands and diversification within the archipelago is Alava, Spain provided according to palaeogeographical events in the western Mediterranean Basin. Location The Balearic Islands, Western Mediterranean. Methods A 2461-bp DNA sequence dataset was generated from one nuclear and two mitochondrial gene fragments in 87 specimens, covering all nominal taxa of the genus Allognathus. Through maximum-likelihood and Bayesian phylogenetic methods along with a Bayesian molecular clock, we examined the evolutionary history of the group. Ancestral distribution ranges were estimated for divergence events across the tree using a Bayesian approach. We also used genetic species-delimitation models to determine the taxonomy of Allognathus. Results We provided the first molecular phylogeny of Allognathus, a genus endemic to the Balearic Islands. The origin of the genus in the Balearic Islands was dated to the middle Miocene based on palaeogeographical events in the Western Mediterranean. During the late Miocene and Pliocene, several diversi- fication events occurred within the archipelago. The ancestral range of Allogna- thus was reconstructed as the north-eastern Tramuntana Mountains of Mallorca.

ISSN: 1502-4873 Diversity of Norwegian sea slugs (Nudibranchia): new species to Norwegian coastal waters and new data on distribution of rare species Jussi Evertsen1 and Torkild Bakken1 Evertsen J, Bakken T. 2013. Diversity of Norwegian sea slugs (Nudibranchia): new species to Norwegian coastal waters and new data on distribution of rare species. Fauna norvegica 32: 45-52. A total of 5 nudibranch species are reported from the Norwegian coast for the first time (Doridoxa ingolfiana, Goniodoris castanea, Onchidoris sparsa, Eubranchus rupium and Proctonotus mucro- niferus). In addition 10 species that can be considered rare in Norwegian waters are presented with new information (Lophodoris danielsseni, Onchidoris depressa, Palio nothus, Tritonia griegi, Tritonia lineata, Hero formosa, Janolus cristatus, Cumanotus beaumonti, Berghia norvegica and Calma glau- coides), in some cases with considerable changes to their distribution. These new results present an update to our previous extensive investigation of the nudibranch fauna of the Norwegian coast from 2005, which now totals 87 species. An increase in several new species to the Norwegian fauna and new records of rare species, some with considerable updates, in relatively few years results mainly from sampling effort and contributions by specialists on samples from poorly sampled areas. doi: 10.5324/fn.v31i0.1576. E-mail: [email protected] Abstract: Gundlachia radiata (Guilding, 1828), in northwestern region (Jujuy province), Argentina. Adult and juveniles specimens of this freshwater limpet were collected in In the present paper we report for the first time the presence of point of occurrence of G. radiata in South America. As a result, the distributional range of this species is increased and the two temporary water bodies. This record represents the first report of this species in Argentina but also is the southernmost species richness of Ancylidae in Argentina is incremented to a total of seven species classified in four genera. The Ancylidae sensu latum are freshwater pulmonate snails, characterized by a pateliform shell. Ancylidae are cosmopolitan, and according to Santos (2003) there are seven genera in South America: Anisancylus Pilsbry, 1924; Gundlachia Pfeiffer, 1849; Hebetancylus Pilsbry, 1913; Uncancylus Pilsbry, 1913; Burnupia Walker, 1912; Ferrissia Walker, 1913 and Laevapex Walker, 1903.

Corregido 14-II-2007. Aceptado 27-VII-2007. Abstract: Latin American Malacology. Freshwater Mollusks from Argentina. A report and an updated list with comments on the species of freshwater molluscs of Argentina which covers an area of 2 777 815 km2 is presented. Distributions of Gastropoda and Bivalvia families, endemic, exotic, invasive as well as entities of sanitary importance are also studied and recommendations on their conservation are provided. Molluscs related to the Del Plata Basin have been thoroughly studied in comparison to others areas of the country. This fauna exhibits relatively the biggest specific richness and keeps its affinity with the fauna of other regions of the basin in areas of Paraguay and Brasil. The 4 500 records of molluscs considered in this paper arise from the study of the collections of Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales “Bernardino Rivadavia”, Buenos Aires; Museo de La Plata, La Plata and Fundación “Miguel Lillo”, Tucumán. These institutions keep very important collections of molluscs in southern South America. Field information has recently been obtained and localities cited by other authors are also included in the data base. Until today, 166 species have been described, 101 belonging to 10 families of Gastropoda and 65 to 7 of Bivalvia.

  • THE LISTING of PHILIPPINE MARINE MOLLUSKS Guido T
August 2017 Guido T. Poppe A LISTING OF PHILIPPINE MARINE MOLLUSKS - V1.00 THE LISTING OF PHILIPPINE MARINE MOLLUSKS Guido T. Poppe INTRODUCTION The publication of Philippine Marine Mollusks, Volumes 1 to 4 has been a revelation to the conchological community. Apart from being the delight of collectors, the PMM started a new way of layout and publishing - followed today by many authors. Internet technology has allowed more than 50 experts worldwide to work on the collection that forms the base of the 4 PMM books. This expertise, together with modern means of identification has allowed a quality in determinations which is unique in books covering a geographical area. Our Volume 1 was published only 9 years ago: in 2008. Since that time “a lot” has changed. Finally, after almost two decades, the digital world has been embraced by the scientific community, and a new generation of young scientists appeared, well acquainted with text processors, internet communication and digital photographic skills. Museums all over the planet start putting the holotypes online – a still ongoing process – which saves taxonomists from huge confusion and “guessing” about how animals look like. Initiatives as Biodiversity Heritage Library made accessible huge libraries to many thousands of biologists who, without that, were not able to publish properly. The process of all these technological revolutions is ongoing and improves taxonomy and nomenclature in a way which is unprecedented. All this caused an acceleration in the nomenclatural field: both in quantity and in quality of expertise and fieldwork. The above changes are not without huge problematics. Many studies are carried out on the wide diversity of these problems and even books are written on the subject.
