CAST /DUCTILE IRON FITTINGS

ITEM W35

SCOPE (Sec. 35.01) This work shall consist of the furnishing and installing of /ductile iron fittings at the locations shown on the drawings or as directed by the Engineer. All materials shall be as specified herein.

MATERIALS (Sec. 35.02) All standard and special cast iron/ductile iron castings shall conform to the latest applicable AWWA specifications for pressure fittings with end conditions as specified herein. AWWA C110, or latest edition shall be applicable for all standard-bodied cast iron/ductile iron fittings.

PRESSURE RATINGS (Sec. 35.03) Fittings for sizes of 12 inch diameter and smaller shall be rated for 250 psi working pressure in accordance with AWWA C 110.

END CONDITIONS (Sec. 35.04) The end conditions of each fitting shall be as required to accommodate the jointing requirements for the particular pipe material being connected to the fitting in accordance with the piping layout shown on the plans. The particular pipe material to be connected to the fitting is specified elsewhere in these specifications.

COATING AND LINING (Sec. 35.05) The outside surface of all cast iron/ductile iron fittings shall be shop coated with either a coal tar or asphalt base bituminous material. If this coating material is found to be damaged prior to pipe trench being backfilled, the Contractor shall provide and apply additional material of that required to repair the damages. The Contractor shall have sufficient coating material available at the job site prior to laying the pipe.

The interior of each fitting shall be lined with cement mortar and seal coated in complete conformance with AWWA C 104, or latest revision.

BOLTS AND NUTS (Sec. 35.06) Bolts and nuts shall be corten (COR TEN) weathering . All ancillary hardware (washers etc.) not available in corten shall be . All bolts shall be sized to accommodate a 6 oz. zinc anode cap on every bolt thread. All Bolts and nuts shall conform to the chemical and mechanical requirements of ASTM A193.

INSTALLATION (Sec. 35.07) All fittings shall be installed at the locations and grades shown on the plans or as directed by the Engineer. Mislocated fittings shall be relocated to the required location by the Contractor at his own expense.

All joints shall be made in accordance with these specifications.

MEASUREMENT (Sec. 35.08) The weight of the cast iron/ductile iron fittings to be paid for shall be the number of tons actually placed in accordance with these plans and specifications. The weight shall include all main line cast iron/ductile iron tees, crosses, reducers, wyes, elbows and plugs as called for on the drawings or directed by the Engineer and installed. This measurement does not include any fittings paid for under any other items.

PAYMENT (Sec. 35.09) The unit price stipulated per ton for main line cast iron/ductile iron fittings shall be considered full compensation for the furnishing, placing, anchorage (restraints, blocking, etc.), painting, testing, jointing, etc., of all cast iron/ductile iron fittings as called out in the measurement portion.
