It is the biggest and the most established university in Turkey, running 767 diploma programs, with its 20 Faculties, 17 Institutes, 3 Colleges, 1 Conservatoire, 7 Vocational Schools, 41 Application and Research Centers, and 3 Departments. It has a unique training and education potential with its approximately 18,000 graduates. The objectives of İstanbul University, among world’s top 500 universities (ARWU ranking) for the past eight years, for the near future are to be among the world’s top 100 universities and maintain its greatest role in shaping our past/history since 1453 as a “Bridge of Science from the Past into the Future”. Istanbul University has the highest number of publications in Turkey, the number of publications per faculty member increases approximately by 5% each year. It was the serious support attempts for improving the research facilities of scientists at the international level and for strengthening their motivation that led to the attainment of this success. What plays a key role in the progress of nations in the scientific arena is the support given to fundamental scientific research. However, in a globalized world, research that benefits the society is the only way to achieve sustainable development, welfare the whole society enjoys, and a future for a world where we can live. The achievement of this objective is through collaboration of all relevant institute and institutions in areas of research on applied sciences, without neglecting fundamental scientific research. In the last five years, İstanbul University has recognized it as its primary objective to carry its research capacity beyond scientific publications and transform it into new technology and products offering solutions to the problems of our country, region and world society. Our mission is to produce sustainable solutions to the problems in the fields of environment, energy sources, social area, health and culture by research relevant for the society, on the other hand, our vision is to achieve this objective through regional and academic cooperation and in ten years to carry this process to a level that will draw attention of the international academic community. The aim, in preparing the Catalogue of Research Laboratories at İstanbul University, is to enhance our collaboration with our national and international partners in the fields of health, science, engineering, and social sciences by presenting our university’s research inventory and facilities for research to universities, state institutions, private sector establishments, and the public. We present our research inventory as well as vast opportunities of our laboratories to the attention of universities, state institutions, private sector entities and society through our catalogue, The Catalogue of Research Laboratories of İstanbul University, in order to increase our cooperation with our stakeholders in the fields of health, science, engineering and social sciences. • Twitter Usage of Universities in Turkey
TOJET: The Turkish Online Journal of Educational Technology – April 2013, volume 12 Issue 2 TWITTER USAGE OF UNIVERSITIES IN TURKEY Özgü YOLCU Istanbul University, Turkey [email protected] ABSTRACT Universities are among the users of the most popular social media networks. Usage of social media by especially students and many other people and institutions, which constitutes the target audience for universities, encourages the universities to effectively use this environment. Twitter is among these social media networks which facilitate the communication by providing a faster, easier and economical means to interact with target audience in different parts of the world. In order to contribute to effective use of Twitter, tweets of the top ten most followed state and foundation universities in Twitter were examined in our research. These tweets were then compared with each other by their subjects, by tools they use, and by the participation of users to the tweets posted. Differences among them were attempted to be identified by using the content analysis method. Keywords: Internet, Twitter, Social Media 1. INTRODUCTION “Technology provides society with new opportunities to design all things well.” (İşman, 2012) Technology’s new opportunities are learned quickly and the usage of computer and internet is increasing more and more ever day in Turkey too. Following social media is one of the main reasons of internet usage. According to the results of Survey on Information and Communication Technology in Households conducted by Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜIK), following social media is ranked 6th among other reasons of personal internet usage of individuals who used internet in January-March 2012.

It has been found that have altered cardiac autonomic regulation and changed heart they have higher rates of cardiac disease and morbidity due rate variability. The goal of this study was to analyze whether to the dysregulation of ANS activity. schizophrenia patients may exhibit distinctive Heart rate Most of these studies in schizophrenia patients are variability time and frequency domain parameters for control restricted to electrocardiogram (ECG) based HRV signal subjects compared both at rest and during auditory analysis. However, there are some of the problems of this stimulation periods. Photoplethysmographic signals of thirteen technique such as drift, electromagnetic and biologic schizophrenic patients and thirteen healthy subjects were used interference, the number of wires, and the complex in the analysis of heart rate variability. Results show that heart morphology of the ECG [13]. On the other hand, rate in patients was higher than that of control subjects photoplethysmogaphy (PPG) is reported as a simpler and indicating autonomic dysfunction throughout the entire experiment. In comparison with control subjects, patients with easier process than analyzing HRV parameters from ECG schizophrenia exhibited lower high frequency power and a data according to the results of a previous study [14].

  • MAPPING the FAULTLINES: Structural Crisis of the World-System and Turkey” 10Th of May 2012
______________________________________________________________________________ Istanbul Şehir University, Center for Modern Turkish Studies & Keele University, School of Politics, International Relations and Philosophy presents a Workshop on “MAPPING THE FAULTLINES: Structural Crisis of the World-System and Turkey” 10th of May 2012 Workshop will be conducted in English Time: May 10, 2011 - Thursday // 14.00-18:00 Venue: Istanbul Şehir University Altunizade Campus 5th Floor Meeting Hall The current global crisis is an expression of the structural changes and deep-rooted contradictions, which have occurred within the global system in the last 30 years. The present crisis has reminded us that we live in a dynamic world where empires and systems come and go according to history’s dictates. It seems that the Bretton Woods system is in eclipse, and the world is moving toward a multi-polar global structure. In the long history of global political economy, crises come and go, as do the focal points around which they form. To understand the dynamics of the current process of change we must also understand the history that gives it volume and reach. The current crisis is destined to bring about fundamental changes in the world. The world will be different when the carnage stops. The crisis will bring irreversible geopolitical consequences. We are not saying that it is all over for the USA. It is still one of the strongest countries in the world. But the reality is that the US economy and the rest of the US-centred economies of the West are fast losing ground. China, India and other significant emerging economies, including Turkey, have been strengthening considerably.

  • About Issa Turkey
ABOUT ISSA TURKEY Education In Turkey 1 2 www.issa.org.tr ABOUT ISSA TURKEY PREFACE The foremost indicator of the internationalization of the universities around the world includes the number of the foreign students they teach, and the countries from which these come. Furthermore, every youth would like to study in a university giving the best education at international standards. Seeking after knowledge at the best and farthest institution has been a common rule throughout history. Throughout history, particularly in the Islam culture, many scholars had gone to various realms cradling science and wisdom, and been taught far away from their countries. Having risen in the last century, the number of students worldwide has reached above 5 million worldwide. Besides, this has become a major service sector for all countries in socio-cultural and economical terms, having reached to an annual economical volume of $ 100 billion. Anatolia has been a center of education and science thanks to the scientist it has brought up, its history, its nature, and its geopolitical location at the intersection of three continents. Today, Turkey, too, is an educational center in its territory with its nearly 200 universities, and more than 100 hundred thousand students coming from 95 counties. Students prefer Turkey due to the particular reasons mentioned below. Turkey is a modern Muslim country being governed by Republican regime. Turkey is a country with a thriving economy, alongside its historical, climatic, and natural beauties. Turkish universities accommodate all departments in Turkey with numerous alternatives. While Turkish universities in general are at European standards, not only the private universities are cheaper than those in Europe, it is also way cheaper to study in the state universities, and even for free in some of them.
