S c h u b a r t a n d F a b i a n H e r d e r 12.1 Introduction Some of the world’s most spectacular species radiations or species fl ocks are found in so-called ‘ancient lakes’. Th ese are long-lived lakes that have existed for 100 000 years (Gorthner et al. 1994 , but see also Albrecht and Wilke 2008 ) or more (e.g. Lake Tanganyika and Lake Baikal). Ancient lakes are justifi ably regarded as hotspots of diversifi cation (e.g. Martens 1997 , Rossiter and Kawanabe 2000 ), even if not all ancient lake species fl ocks match the diversity of the super-fl ock of East African cichlids (e.g. Kornfi eld and Smith 2000 , Kocher 2004 ). Studies on the evo- lution of ancient lake organisms have continuously resulted in important insights into general patterns of speciation and radiation (e.g. Streelman and Danley 2003 ) ever since the seminal review of Brooks ( 1950 ). During the last decade, smaller ancient lakes (c. <1 000 km 2 ), which are generally less well investigated, have attracted increasing attention. -

Over 10,500 names are treated including 6,793 valid species and subspecies (with 1,907 primary synonyms), 1,271 genera and subgenera (with 393 primary synonyms), 93 families and 38 superfamilies. Nomenclatural and taxonomic problems are reviewed in detail, and many resolved. Detailed notes and references are provided where necessary. The constitution of a large number of families and superfamilies is discussed in detail, with the positions of some taxa rearranged in an attempt to form a stable base for future taxonomic studies. This is the first time the nomenclature of any large group of decapod crustaceans has been examined in such detail. Amino acids are needed by the human body. One animal that has the amino acid content is eel (Anguilla marmorata (Q.) Gaimard) from Palu River and Poso Lake in Central Sulawesi which are endemic fish. This study aims to determine the comparison of amino acid profile in eel (Anguilla marmorata (Q.) Gaimard) on silver eel phase. Testing amino acid profile using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The results showed that the eel (Anguilla marmorata (Q.) Gaimard) on phase of silver eel from the Palu River and Poso Lake contained 18 kinds of amino acid consisting of 9 kinds of essential amino acids and 9 types of non-essential amino acids. Data comparison shows a significant difference in glycine P = 0.000 and has no significant differences in the valine at P = 0.132. Keywords: Amino acid, Anguilla marmorata, silver eel. Die Arten gehören zwei Familien an, den Parathelphusidae und den Sundathelphusidae. Zu den ersteren gehören die Gattungen Spiralothelphusa Bott mit hydrodroma Herbst, Oziotelphusa Müller mit senex Fabricius und mineriyaensis n. subsp. und Ceylonthelphusa Bott mit rugosa Kingsley, sorror Zehntner und injlatissima n. subsp., zu den letzteren Perbrinckici Bott mit enodis Kingsley. Die Verbreitung der Gattungen und Arten und ihre morphologischen Merkmale werden dargestellt. Dem besonderen Entgegenkommen von Herrn Prof. Per Brinck vom Zoologischen Institut der Universität Lund verdanke ich die Möglichkeit, die Ausbeute an Fluß- Krabben der Schwedischen Ceylon-Expedition 1962 zu bearbeiten und damit eine zusammenfassende Darstellung zu geben. Das Material stammte aus fast hundert Fundorten und besteht aus einigen hundert Exemplaren der verschiedensten Alter- stadien. Durch die Liebenswürdigkeit der folgenden Museen und der zuständigen Herrn konnte ich die Originalexemplare einer Anzahl von Arten heranziehen, um die Svnonomie zu klären. FIELD 2 ABSTRACT: The escape response of Strombus maculatus is described in detail, including the apparent adaptive morphology of the foot, operculum, and eyestalks. The response is elicited by a chemical stimulus from two molluscivorous species of Conus and two gastropod-eating species of Cymatium but not from other pre datory species of these genera. Strombus habituated within three trials to a solution of "factor" from Conus pennaceus, but habituated only rarely, and then only after many trials, to contact with the live Conus. It was concluded that the eyes of S. maculatus are not used to see the Conus; however, eye removal significantly disrupted the orientation of the escape response, suggesting that the animal monitors some environmental cue such as polarized light. Tentacle removal appeared to interfere with escape response orientation but only to a variable extent. HERBIVOROUS GASTROPODS exhibit distinctive posterior end of the foot is thrust against the escape behavior from sea stars (Bauer 1913, substrate, causing the shell and head to lunge Feder and Christensen 1966) and predatory forward. Sundathelphusa cagayana, a new species, is most similar morphologically to other Philippine species with a subquadrate carapace such as S. antipoloensis (Rathbun, 1904), S. grapsoides (H. Milne Edwards, 1853) and S. wolterecki (Balss, 1937) but differs from each by characters of the carapace, epibranchial teeth, ambulatory legs, male abdomen, and gonopods. This discovery brings to 22 the total number of species of Sundathelphusa found in the Philippines. A list of the Sundathelphusa species presently known from the Philippines and their known localities is also provided. In the form of its carapace, third maxilliped, and male second gonopod, it most closely resembles T. ovis Ng, 1997, and T. telur Ng, 1997, from eastern Sarawak and Brunei, respectively. It differs markedly from these and other congeners in its proportionately much wider carapace, and a male first gonopod that is strongly curved and sickle-shaped. The new species seems to be most closely allied to species from southern China, but differs in the form of the carapace, male abdomen and male gonopods. Specimens of a freshwater crab recently (Rathbun 1902:186), a location which is now obtained from a market in Hanoi, Vietnam, supposed to be part of northern Vietnam proved to belong to an undescribed species (Turkay & Naiyanetr 1987:392). Potamon of Somanniathelphusa Bott, 1968 (family (Parathelphusa) prolatus, incorrectly syn- Parathelphusidae Alcock, 1910). The genus onymized with Sayamia dugasti (Rathbun Somanniathelphusa s. str. as now recog 1902) by Bott (1970:112), is a valid species nized (Bott 1970, Ng 1988, Ng & Naiyanetr and should be transferred to Esanthelphusa 1993, Naiyanetr 1994), contains six de (P.
