This indicates that a country that is experiencing high population growth can also have communities that have different kinds of demographic patterns. Parsis are a small but prosperous religious community that maintained some sort of social isolation by practising endogamy and not accepting any new converts to their faith. Their population started declining since 1941 and the explanations that are put forth pertain to the issues of under- enumeration, fertility decline and emigration. In this paper, the relative importance of these factors in the light of 2001 Census is examined. This study demonstrates that the unprecedented fall in fertility among Parsis is the prime contributor to its declining population size. Also in this paper, the population of Parsis is projected up to the year 2051. 2 Unisa et al INTRODUCTION Parsis are perhaps the only community which had experienced dramatic population and fertility decline outside Europe (Coale, 1973; Coale and Watkin, 1986). This indicates that in a country that is experiencing high population growth can also have communities, which amazingly have different kinds of demographic pattern (Axelrod, 1990; Lorimer, 1954). -
Renaming of Allahabad
Renaming of Allahabad Why in news? \n\n The Uttar Pradesh cabinet recently approved a proposal to rename Allahabad as ‘Prayagraj’. \n\n What is the procedure? \n\n \n The task of renaming a city is given to the State Legislators. \n The procedure differs from state to state but the regulations remains the same. \n The first step involves raising of a request in form of a resolution by any MLA, which proposes the renaming of any particular city or street. \n On the basis of the request of the MLA, the issue would be deliberated upon and the consequences of the same shall be discussed upon. \n The final step involves voting of the validity of the resolution. \n If a simple majority is attained in favour of the resolution, the said resolution shall be declared passed. \n The State Legislation on the basis of the majority view shall make the necessary changes in the name of the state or city public. \n The proposal will go to the Centre for approval before the city is officially renamed. \n \n\n What is the history behind Allahabad? \n\n \n The age-old name of the city was Prayag which in literal translation means "a place of sacrifice". \n Prayag finds its mention in the Rig Veda and is recognised as the place where Brahma (the creator of the universe in Hindu mythology) attended a ritual sacrifice. \n \n\n \n Allahabad is more famously known as Triveni Sangam or Sangam Nagari as it is in this city that the confluence of three most pious rivers, the Ganges, Yamuna and Saraswati occurs. -

After presenting the general demo- graphy of Baroda state, this article presents an analysis of data on caste, tribe and religion. It provides classification of villages and towns by the number of castes and tribes found in them, and discusses the issues posed by them, especially the issue of single-caste villages. This article describes the horizontal spread of various castes, tribes and religiousCOMMERCIAL minorities and points out its implications. In the end, it discusses the problem of urbanisation, classifying the towns by ethnic groups found in them. Since Indian Independence in 1947, that influence has declined as has the total size of the Parsi community in India. Many members of the community have dispersed overseas and during the last twenty years, New Zealand has emerged as a growing destination of choice. -

The plain is bound on the north by the Himalayas, which feed its numerous rivers and are the source of the fertile alluvium deposited across the region by the two river systems. PLAINS Roughly, the Indo-Gangetic Plain stretches across: • Jammu Plains in the North; • Punjab Plains in Eastern Pakistan and Northwestern India; • Sindh Plains in Southern Pakistan; • Indus Delta in Southern Pakistan and Western India; • Ganga-Yamuna Doab; • Rohilkhand (Katehr) Plains; • Awadh Plains,the Purvanchal Plains; the Bihar Plains; the North Bengal plains; the Ganges Delta in India and Bangladesh; and • Brahmaputra Valley in the East.
