The report language accompanying bill S.901, supported by both the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) and the Association of Chiropractic Colleges (ACC), becomes effective once the bill has been passed by the full Senate. According to Tom Blackett, FCER’s marketing director, a number of items were posted for auction on the online shopping site. “ FCER has been working on putting together an auction for a couple of years,” said Blackett. “ Over that time, a nice collection of items has been donated to help FCER raise funds for our educational and research programs.” Blackett explained that FCER is fortunate in receiving funds earmarked for specific purposes, such as its fellowship program. Each auction is scheduled to last seven days, the maximum time allowed on eBay. Future auctions are being planned and will be announced on the FCER Web site as well as by e-mail. Could there be days where they could cut back or shift their hours? Now might also be a good time to consider either bringing in a partner or renting space to another chiropractor, Horowitz suggests. Start by thinking of someone you have always wanted to partner with, or start spending more time with other chiropractors to see who else might be considering a merger. A young chiropractor might be

While treating patients who are regular clients, he says it is crucial not to forget “ those patients who are sitting on the shelf waiting to be recognized.” He recommends going through former patients’ files and contacting them on at least a bimonthly basis. If you really want to listen, you will act like a good listener. Good listeners speak body language. The best technique is to “ mirror” the speaker by assuming the same body language and conversational tone he or she is presenting. You need to be a bit of an actor. Mirroring the person’ s tonality, sounding like she sounds, makes her feel comfortable. If she talks fast, you talk fast. If she talks slowly, you talk slowly. You cannot accept your regular fee of $35, even though you are nonparticipating. You bill Medicare the limiting charge of $34. Medicare will reimburse the patient $24, which is 80 percent of the nonpar fee allowance (provided the deductible has been met). 3. A nonparticipating provider accepting assignment. If you are a nonparticipating provider who is willing to accept assignment, the patient is responsible to pay you 20 percent of the nonpar fee allowance ($30), which is $6. You bill Medicare $30.
