DAILY SITUATION REPORT 13 May 2008 Strategic SSI - Afghanistan DAILY SITUATION REPORT 26 JUNE 2010 SAFETY AND SECURITY ISSUES RELEVANT TO SSSI PERSONNEL AND CLIENTS Various Threat Reports were received of possible attacks in Kabul over the past few days, and the insurgent’s intent and capability to conduct attacks in the Kabul City remains elevated. There are daily Threat Reports, but the received reports are mainly generic and lacking detail. It is possible that suicide attacks and indirect fire attacks can be expected in the city, but no time frames and/or specific targets were reported. Any attack in the city can be seen as a success for the insurgents, and they will make maximum use of the propaganda value of such an attack. MAJOR COUNTRY WIDE EVENTS Kidnap: Murder: 25 Jun, Uruzgan Province, Khas Uruzgan District, Bagh Char area, insurgents stopped a vehicle with local civilians on their way to Tarin Kot. They were then kidnapped. During a search operation ANP found eleven beheaded bodies. Strategic SSI - Afghanistan Threat Reports Received Last 5 Days BOLO: 22 Jun, Badghis Province, Murghab District, according to the ANA, insurgents emplaced nine IEDs in Dashuri area and also five IEDs in Managan BOLO: 22 Jun, Farah Province, Pusht Rod District, reportedly five IEDs was emplaced in the Charbagh and Panji Gow village areas. Strategic SSI - Afghanistan Success: Cache Find: 23 Jun, Kabul Province, Paghman District, Darreh Pashai, a cache of six hand grenades was found by the ANP. IED: 23 Jun, Kapisa Province, Nejrab District, Zindagen, a road construction company vehicle was hit by an IED. No casualties reported. IED: 23 Jun, Kapisa Province, Nejrab District, an IED has been found in the area Har Kheyl. Success: IED Find: 24 Jun, Kapisa Province, Nejrab District, An ANP patrol found and destroyed an IED in the Jowr, area. Attack: 22 Jun, Ghazni Province, Deh Yak District, Ghazni – Gardez Road, insurgents attacked a road construction project guarding post, no casualties reported. Attack: 23 0815 Jun, Ghazni Province, Deh Yak District, at 08h00 insurgents attacked a local road construction contractor in the Tasai area. Two local national guards were killed. Ambush: 23 Jun, Ghazni Province, Andar District, Shinay, at 10h30 insurgents attacked an ANP vehicle patrol. No casualties reported. Attack: 23 Jun, Ghazni Province, Andar District, Sar Balai, insurgents attacked the village, killing one civilian and wounding two. Ambush: 23 Jun, Ghazni Province, Nawa District, Baba Yadgar, at 17h00 an ANP member got wounded by insurgents on a water resupply run for his checkpoint. IED: BBIED: 23 Jun, Ghazni Province, Andar District, a BBIED device detonated prematurely in the Qala-Ye Kohneh area. Four insurgents killed. IED: 23 Jun, Ghazni Province, Andar District, a local PSC escort vehicle was hit by an IED in the Sardar Qaleh area. Two PSC guards killed. Attack: 24 Jun, Ghazni Province, Deh Yak District, at 03h00 a PSC post guarding a road construction project on the Ghazni – Gardez Road was attack by insurgents, eight PSC guards injured. IED: 23 Jun, Logar Province, Charkh District, an IM vehicle patrol was hit by an IED in the Now Bojeh area. No casualties reported. Ambush: 23 Jun, Logar Province, Charkh District, insurgents launched an RPG attack on an IM patrol, one IM member killed. IDF Attack: 24 Jun, Logar Province, Charkh District, insurgents launched an IDF attack towards the District ANP Station. One civilian wounded. Success: COIN OP: Arrest: 24 Jun, Logar Province, during an IM/ANSF operation in the Kharwar District area, two insurgents got captured. Ambush: 25 Jun, Logar Province, Kharwar District, insurgents attacked an IM patrol in the Karez area. No casualties reported. Strategic SSI - Afghanistan IED: 23 Jun, Uruzgan Province, Tarin Kot City, an ANP patrol was hit by an RCIED in the Kotowal area, one ANP member wounded. IED: 23 Jun, Uruzgan Province, Tarin Kot City, an ANP patrol was hit by an RCIED in the Sar Khum area, no casualties reported. IED: 23 Jun, Uruzgan Province, Chorah District, Ghunyeh, a road construction company vehicle was hit by an RCIED on the Gizab Road, seven local construction workers killed. Ambush: 23 Jun, Uruzgan Province, Chorah District, an ANA/IM foot patrol came under attack by insurgents with small arms, one ANA member killed. Kidnap: Murder: 25 Jun, Uruzgan Province, Khas Uruzgan District, Bagh Char area, reportedly insurgents stopped a vehicle with local civilians on their way to the Provincial Capital on the Tarin Kot Road on 24 Jun. They were then kidnapped. During a search operation the ANP found eleven beheaded bodies in the Bagh Char area. Ambush: 23 Jun, Wardak Province, Shahr District, an ANA motorcade on the JALREYZ road came under attack in the Maidan area. One ANA member was wounded. Ambush: 23 Jun, Wardak Province, Sayidabad District, a local PSC patrol was attacked by insurgents, one PSC guard wounded. Kidnap: 23 Jun, Wardak Province, Nerkh District, ANP reported that two local national employees of an NGO were kidnapped in the Akhchi area. Ambush: 23 Jun, Wardak Province, Maidan Shahr District, Jalrayz road, an ANA vehicle move came under attack. One ANA member was wounded. Strategic SSI - Afghanistan WESTERN REGION IED: 23 Jun, Farah Province, Pusht Rud District, an IM vehicle patrol was hit by an IED in the Teppai Sheran area. One IM member killed. Ambush: 25 Jun, Farah Province, Gulistan District, an IM contracted logistics convoy came under attack on Highway 1. ANSF QRF assisted the contractor. No casualties reported. Success: Cache Find: 21 Jun, Herat Province, Ghorian District, ANP found a cache of ten 107mm rockets and some A/T mines in the Bernabad area. Success: Cache Find: 24 Jun, Herat Province, Obeh District, ANP found a cache of explosives in the area. Attack: 24 Jun, Herat Province, Kushk District, insurgents attacked an ANP post. No casualties reported. Ambush: 23 Jun, Badghis Province, Murghab District, insurgents attacked an IM/ ANSF, vehicle patrol in the Mangan Pass. No casualties reported. Kidnap: 23 Jun, Faryab Province, Khwajeh Sabz Push District, a man got kidnapped, as his family refused to pay money to them. Insurgency: IVCPs: 23 Jun, Faryab Province, Dowlatabad District, during a illegal check point insurgents were stopping vehicles and searching for people with ANSF/GIRoA connections. Strategic SSI - Afghanistan NORTHERN REGION Insurgency: Poison Attack: 23 Jun, Kunduz Province, Sar-E Pol District, insurgents poisoned a girls’ school classroom in the Boghoi Aliya area. Between fifteen and twenty schoolgirls and six teachers were affected and taken to hospital. IDF Attack: 23 Jun, Samangan Province, Aibak City, an ANP Post was attacked by insurgents with IDF in the Akh Kham area.

    Group 22 – Information Centre for Asylum and Migration Briefing Notes 19 December 2016 Afghanistan Armed clashes Hostilities, raids and attacks, some involving fatalities or injuries among the civilian population, continue to occur. According to press reports, the follow- ing provinces were affected in recent weeks: Parwan, Nangarhar, Ghazni, Za- bul, Nuristan, Helmand, Balkh, Kunduz, Kabul (Paghman district). The Afghan Local Police in Kunduz (North-East Afghanistan) are demanding heavy weapons, claiming that they are otherwise unable to combat the Taliban in the province effectively. Targeted attacks On 13.12.16 a border police commander and his bodyguard were killed in a bomb attack in Kunar (East Af- ghanistan). A girl was killed in an attack by insurgents on a bus in Badakhstan (North-East Afghanistan); two people were injured. Two insurgents died in Kabul on 14.12.16 when their explosives blew up prematurely. One foreigner was shot dead by a guard near Kabul airport and at least two were injured. Two children were killed in an explosion in Zabul (South-East Afghanistan) on 15.12.16. Three children and one woman were injured. Two suicide bombers were arrested before they had an opportunity to carry out an attack in Nangarhar (South-East Afghanistan). Five female airport employees were shot dead by unknown assailants on their way to work in Kandahar (South Afghanistan) on 17.12.16. Taliban executed a mother of two in Badghis (West Afghanistan) on 19.12.16. She had married another man after her first husband went to Iran. On returning, the latter had denounced his wife to the Taliban.

More than 75% of country’s population is living in rural areas. Paghman District located in the Kabul Province of Afghanistan was selected for conducting this research. In Paghman District, there are some severe problems regarding agricultural land use, water resource conservation, and utilization. The objective of this study is to identify current agriculture status and problems faced in Paghman District for conserving water environment of the Qargha Reservoir qualitatively and quantitatively. To achieve the objectives, a questionnaire survey was conducted to find out the current agricultural status and problems faced in Paghman District. One or more local farmers (representatives) were selected from each of the 15 different villages in Qargha Reservoir watershed of Paghman District. The results indicated that water shortage, soil erosion, and low fertility were the major factors causing low agricultural productivity. Majority of the local farmers perceived water shortage magnitude as severe and very severe at 33%, respectively. Local farmers’ awareness about soil erosion effects on their cultivated lands were minor. About 54% of the local farmers were not aware of the soil erosion effects on their lands.

AFP AND ENVIRONMENTAL SURVEILLANCE • 198 acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) cases (99 girls and 99 boys) reported in September. Overall in 2018, 2,451 AFP cases have been reported, of which 2,227 have been discarded as “non-polio AFP” and 209 cases are pending classification.
