AUGUST IS CHOIR MINISTRY MONTH: TIME TO GROW!!

 DISCOVER the song in your heart and share it with a family of dedicated music volunteers who already know the power and inspiration of singing the hymns, psalms, and responses from the choir “loft”, ONE praying voice carried throughout the church.  DISCOVER new friendships and new prayer partners during our social activities.

YOU ARE INVITED! The ADULT CHOIR and THE SPIRIT & SONG ENSEMBLE invite you to join us Saturday Aug 24 at the 4:30 Mass, followed by dinner and fellowship downstairs. This invitation is for EVERYONE (high school age on up!):  Those who know they can sing  Those who think they can sing  Those who have been told they can sing  Those who aren’t sure, but open to the possibility

The August 24 Liturgy is for past, current, and future choir members. After Mass, we look forward to hosting you with delicious food (meats prepared by “Master Smoker” Jim Rottinghaus), and warm hospitality. Please RSVP to Music Director Dorothy Brandwein ([email protected]) no later than Monday Aug. 19. Our one and only choir rehearsal is before Mass on August 24, 3:30 in church. Our theme for the evening is:

I HAVE CALLED YOU BY NAME ARE YOU BEING CALLED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT? COME SING, PRAY, PRAISE AND EAT ON AUGUST 24. YOU JUST MIGHT FIND THE ANSWER!!

“I shall sing with the Spirit and I shall sing with the mind.” I Cor. 14:15

“Come , let us go up with joy to the house of the Lord! I will sing to the lord all my life,

make music to my God while I live.” Ps. 104

WEEKLY PRAYER

Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time Baptisms

We reflect upon the voice of the prophet in this Sunday s readings. We hear of the suffering and the rescue of Kellen Parker Brower Jeremiah. We hear how Jesus anticipates his suffering and Theodora Christelle Tonda Wambi death. As with Jeremiah and Jesus, the prophets were sent by Collins Kantor God to the leaders and people of Israel. A prophet is one who Maximilian Michael Kline speaks truth to the powerful, exposing their darker hidden Hilton Munson motives and injustices. The prophet presents a way forward Allison Elizabeth Kruse that aligns with God s purposes. A prophet can force people Benjamin Winston Hanks away from a comfortable neutrality or indifference. The prophet creates an urgency to make a choice: Are we content with the status quo, or are we to change our ways and pursue Together for Life a new and better path? Today, we may also ask, how do we identify and respond to prophets of our time? How might we provide a prophetic voice in our Church and in our world? Lauren Stein and Joshua Steffensmeier

KEEP YOUR EYES ON JESUS The author of the Letter to the Hebrews places Jesus at the Banns of Matrimony center of faith. The author uses the Greek word archegos, translated as leader. This rich word includes various Jenna Bruegger and Zachery Castilleja meanings: pioneer, instigator, and captain. Jesus blazed the trail, showing us how to run the long-distance race of faith-- with steadfastness and courage. To a community experiencing persecutions and discouragement, Jesus is From Death to New Life known as the exemplar of faithful endurance. In keeping our eyes on Jesus, we confront what often is the most persistent obstacle to our faith--discouragement. Our David Stewart, Stepfather of Denise Gartner faith-filled focus on Jesus enables us to see reality as filled Mary White, Mother of Brian with the presence of God. God is neither distant nor Robert Stockman, Father of Barbara Schulte indifferent; God is close and passionately loves us. Discouragement results in part from seeing mostly sin and darkness in our world and in ourselves. Jesus, God and August 19 - 25 human, reminds us of the divine activity within us and among us.
