Leonard Cohen`s Tower Of Song: A Grand Gala Of Excellence Without Compromise by Christof Graf A Memorial Tribute To Leonard Cohen Bell Centre, Montreal/ Canada, 6th November 2017 A concert review by Christof Graf Photos by: Christof Graf “The Leonard Cohen Memorial Tribute ‘began in a grand fashion,” wrote the MONTREAL GAZETTE. “One Year After His Death, the Legendary Singer-Songwriter is Remembered, Spectacularly, in Montral,” headlined the US-Edition of NEWSWEEK. The media spoke of a “Star-studded Montreal memorial concert which celebrated life and work of Leonard Cohen.” –“Cohen fans sing, shout Halleluja in tribute to poet, songwriter Leonard,” was the title chosen by THE STAR. The NATIONAL POST said: “Sting and other stars shine in fast-paced, touching Leonard Cohen tribute in Montreal.” Everyone present shared this opinion. It was a moving and fascinating event of the highest quality. The first visitors had already begun their pilgrimage to the Hockey Arena of the Bell Centre at noon. The organizers reported around 20.000 visitors in the evening. Some media outlets estimated 16.000, others 22.000. Many visitors came dressed in dark suits and fedora hats, an homage to Cohen’s “work attire.” Cohen last sported his signature wardrobe during his over three hour long concerts from 2008 to 2013. How many visitors were really there was irrelevant; the Bell Centre was filled to the rim. The “Tower Of Song- A Memorial Tribute To Leonard Cohen” was sold out. Expectations were high as fans of the Canadian Singer/Songwriter pilgrimmed from all over the world to Montreal to pay tribute to their deceased idol. -

1 2 Playlist Sept. 13th 2015 9AM/OPEN The Beatles - I’m Only Sleeping - Revolver (Lennon-McCartney) Lead vocal: John Written by John and Paul at Kenwood, John’s estate in Weybridge, in one writing session. Recording of the backing rhythm track began at 11:30 p.m. on April 27, 1966. John recorded his lead vocal on April 29. Both the vocal and backing track were recorded at variable speed. It was during the recording of “I’m Only Sleeping” that The Beatles discovered the “backwards guitar.” On May 5, 1966, as the band continued working on the song, George painstakingly transcribed the notes in his guitar solo and flourishes and then wrote them out backwards. He then played them in that reverse order. The tapes were then superimposed BACKWARDS in the mix, playing the solo notes and embellishments in the correct order, but maintaining the eerie backwards sound. “I’m Only Sleeping” was one of three songs issued in America six weeks prior to their official release in the UK. American and Canadian Beatles fans heard “I’m Only 3 Sleeping,” “And Your Bird Can Sing,” and “Doctor Robert” first on Capitol Records’ “Yesterday And Today” album, issued June 20, 1966. The rest of the world had to wait until the first week of August for them to appear on the “Revolver” LP. On U.S. album: Yesterday And Today - Capitol LP The Beatles - Fixing A Hole - Sgt. JOHN ELLIS BULLET BIOG 2018 Formed the legendary BAZOOKA JOE Band members included Adam Ant. First Sex Pistols gig was as support to Bazooka Joe. A very influential band despite making no records. Formed THE VIBRATORS. Released 2 albums for Epic. Also played with Chris Spedding on TV and a couple of shows. REM covered a Vibrators single. Extensive touring and TV/Radio appearances including John Peel sessions. Released 2 solo singles. Played guitar in Jean-Jacques Burnel’s Euroband for UK tour. Formed RAPID EYE MOVEMENT featuring HOT GOSSIP dancers and electronics. Supported Jean-Jacques Burnel’s Euroband on UK tour. Joined Peter Gabriel Band for “China” tour and played on Gabriel’s 4th solo album. Stood in for Hugh Cornwell for 2 shows by THE STRANGLERS at the Rainbow Theatre. Album from gig released. Worked with German duo ISLO MOB on album and single. Started working with Peter Hammill eventually doing many tours and recording on 7 albums. Rejoined THE VIBRATORS for more recording and touring. Founder and press officer for the famous M11 Link Road campaign. Recorded 2 albums under the name of PURPLE HELMETS with Jean-Jacques Burnel and Dave Greenfield of THE STRANGLERS. Played additional guitar on THE STRANGLERS ‘10’ tour. Joined THE STRANGLERS as full time member. Extensive touring and recording over 10 years. Many albums released including live recording of Albert Hall show. Played many festivals across the world. Many TV and Radio appearances. Started recording series of electronic instrumental albums as soundtracks for Art exhibitions. 5 CDs released by Voiceprint. Also released WABI SABI 21©, the first of a trilogy of albums inspired by Japanese culture. -
