Principles Athlete Allocation System Preamble The Commonwealth Games Federation’s (CGF’s) strategic plan ‘Transformation 2022’ is a blueprint which puts athletes at the heart of ambitions for growth and innovation. The strategic plan recognises the rapidly-changing landscape of international sport as we continue to develop the world-class sporting stage that is the Commonwealth Games. Transformation 2022 broadens the CGF’s focus from the four‐year operating cycle of the Games itself to a more far‐reaching role as a global movement focused on partnerships, engagement and value generation that unites athletes, citizens and communities. Transformation 2022 has four strategic objectives: 1. Inspiring and Innovative Games; 2. Good Governance and Management; 3. Strong Partnerships; and 4. A Valued Brand. Complementing Transformation 2022, the updated vision of the CGF is ‘building peaceful, sustainable and prosperous communities globally by inspiring Commonwealth Athletes to drive the impact and ambition of all Commonwealth Citizens through Sport’. Through Transformation 2022, the CGF has had a revitalised approach to the Sport strategy including: 1. A newly‐approved programme of compulsory and optional sports; 2. An agreement to establish a ‘recognised’ designation for those International Federations developing activities within the Commonwealth; and 3. The endorsement of a sports‐quota system to be implemented at the Durban 2022 Commonwealth Games for the first time. To achieve these strategic goals, a hybrid and transitional model has been agreed for introduction at the next edition of the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in 2018 (GC2018). Consequently, the participation of athletes for a select number of sports will be administered through qualification criteria while the remaining sports on the programme will be managed via the existing ‘open-entry’ process. The sports for GC2018 that will be administered through qualification criteria are: • Badminton (Team Event); • Para-Sports; • Team Sports; • Beach Volleyball and • Weightlifting. Minimum Participation (MPS) have also been developed for Athletics Field and Road Events to optimise the operational and scheduling delivery of Athletics at GC2018. Page 1 of 2 Athlete Allocation Systems Through consultation with International Federations (IFs) and GC2018, the CGF has developed a series of Athlete Allocation Systems by sport that will detail the following: 1. Medal Events by Discipline; 2. Maximum CGA Athlete Qualification Numbers by Event; 3. Type of Athlete Slot Allocation (To the CGA, or to the CGA for eligible Events by Athlete by Name); 4. Qualification Framework; 5. Athlete Eligibility; and 6. Timelines. Athlete Allocation Systems have been developed to enable the clear communication of deadlines, processes and CGA Quota Allocation requirements. These Athlete Allocation Systems will be supplemented by the GC2018 Sport Entries Manual and Sport Explanatory Guidelines. The CGF retains the sole and absolute discretion to amend Athlete Allocation Systems, including in instances where the amendment of IF Regulations requires adjustment to published Systems.     The historical and contemporary role of physical activity and sport for women: a study of netball in Scotland Elinor Steel Thesis submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy University of Stirling January 2020 DECLARATION I declare that this thesis has been composed by myself, and that it embodies the results of my own research. I acknowledge that to the best of my knowledge this thesis contains no material written or published by another person, except where due reference to such is made. Signature: Date: ABSTRACT This thesis examines the area of female physical activity and competitive team sport, in particular, netball as a means to support lifelong female physical activity and participation in sport. This study is the first to investigate the historical and contemporary place of netball and therefore provides a new perspective on Scottish female physical activity and sports participation through netball. The research underpinning this thesis used a mixed methods approach: self- completion survey questionnaires and face-to-face interviews. These methods are supplemented by a review of literature pertaining to the substantive themes that underpin this study (e.g.: sociological and historical aspects of women's sport; critical social and historical analysis of sport in Scotland; the development of netball in Scotland). This thesis also utilises important data collected via survey questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The survey questionnaires were completed by 143 women over 16 years of age who have played and/or coached netball. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 32 women to explore in greater depth individuals’ personal accounts of netball alongside a range of topics outlined in the survey questionnaire.

TOP 10 Annual Report 2019 / 20 Whilst we did not make the 2019 Netball World Cup, the Wales squad more than made up for it with some amazing performances in our 2019 Summer WALES’ SECOND EVER Tests in Cardiff. We welcomed netball nations from across the world and AFTER achieved fantastic wins against Malawi, Trinidad & Tobago and Grenada TEST NETBALL 45 7 TEST countries to ensure that our world rankings did not suffer.

    Netball Is a Ball Sport Played by Two Teams of Seven Players

    Netball is a ball sport played by two teams of seven players. Its development, derived from early versions of basketball, began in England in the 1890s. By 1960, international playing rules had been standardised for the game, and the International Federation of Netball and Women's Basketball (later renamed the International Netball Federation (INF)) was formed. As of 2011, the INF comprises more than 60 national teams organized into five global regions. Games are played on a rectangular court with raised goal rings at each end. Each team attempts to score goals by passing a ball down the court and shooting it through its goal ring. Players are assigned specific positions, which define their roles within the team and restrict their movement to certain areas of the court. During general play, a player with the ball can hold onto it for only three seconds before shooting for a goal or passing to another player. The winning team is the one that scores the most goals. Netball games are 60 minutes long. Variations have been developed to increase the game's pace and appeal to a wider audience. Netball is most popular in Commonwealth nations, specifically in schools, and is predominantly played by women. According to the INF, netball is played by more than 20 million people in more than 80 countries. Major transnational competitions take place, including the Netball Superleague in Great Britain and the ANZ Championship in Australia and New Zealand. Three major competitions take place internationally: the quadrennial World Netball Championships, the Commonwealth Games, and the yearly World Netball Series.

Our membership and levels of engagement across Scotland continue to grow year on year. The profile of Netball across the UK has been rocketed skywards through increased media – with the Vitality Netball Superleague regularly covered and advertised at prime time across Sky and many free to view channels. The continued growth of our sport is testament to the hard work and significant effort from everyone across our organisation, staff and our wonderful extended team of volunteers, we would not be where we are today without your time, experience and loyalty – thank you very much. 2018 was dominated by the Commonwealth Games – being held on the Gold Coast, Australia. Our performance was exhilarating, providing great talking points and recognition of how our athletes and squad have grown, developed and are now up there, playing and competing with the Top 10 nations and keeping them on their toes! Our Sirens Superleague franchise competed again in the Vitality Netball Superleague bringing even bigger and noisier crowds of fans into the Emirates.
