USA, 1972, 93 minutes, Rated R, Directed by Brian De Palma Cult Classics: Frankenhooker Tuesday, October 9th at 9:30PM In this horror comedy, the gruesome death of his girlfriend Elizabeth (Patty Mullen) in a lawn mower accident inspires hobby scientist Jeff Franken (James Lorinz) to re-assemble her using Elizabeth’s head and a variety of body parts he has “harvested” from a group of attractive New York City prostitutes. A convenient thunderstorm gets the experiment underway as “Frankenhooker” is set to roam the streets of New York. USA, 1961, 80 minutes, Not Rated, Directed by Roger Corman Saturday Matinee Classics: Nosferatu Saturday, October 13th at 12PM A cornerstone of the horror film, F.W. Murnau’s NOSFERATU: A SYMPHONY OF HORROR is resurrected in an HD edition mastered from the acclaimed 35mm restoration by the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Stiftung. Backed by an orchestral performance of Hans Erdmann’s 1922 score, this edition offers unprecedented visual clarity and historical faithfulness to the original release version. An unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, NOSFERATU remains to many viewers the most unsettling vampire film ever made, and its bald, spidery vampire, personified by the diabolical Max Schreck, continues to spawn imitations in the realm of contemporary cinema. Germany, 1922, 94 minutes, Silent with English Intertitles, Directed by F. W. Murnau Midnight Movies: Creepshow Saturday, October 13th at 11:59PM A compendium of five short but terrifying tales contained within a single full-length feature, this film conjures scares from traditional bogeymen and portents of doom. In one story, a monster escapes from its holding cell. Another focuses on a husband (Leslie Nielsen) with a creative way of getting back at his cheating wife. Other stories concern a rural man (Stephen King) and a visitor from outer space, and a homeowner (E.G. Marshall) with huge bug problems and a boozing corpse. Romero Music Mondays: The Rocky Horror Picture Show Monday, October 15th at 9:30PM In Partnership with Park Ave CDs and WPRK In this cult classic, sweethearts Brad (Barry Bostwick) and Janet (Susan Sarandon), stuck with a flat tire during a storm, discover the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry), a transvestite scientist. As Sheldon devises plans for escape, Annie grows increasingly controlling, even violent, as she forces the author to shape his writing to suit her twisted fantasies. USA, 1990, 107 minutes, Rated R, Directed by Rob Reiner Midnight Movies: Re-Animator Saturday, October 20th at 11:59PM H.P. Lovecraft and Lucio Fulci did not team up to make the most amazing gore-sex grotesquerie of 1985 — but thanks to RE-ANIMATOR, they didn’t have to. Director Stuart Gordon and producer Brian Yuzna’s joint debut feature, this epochal, awe- inspiring amalgam of FRANKENSTEIN, THE BEYOND, and REVENGE OF THE NERDS is where science meets chaos to produce an hyperactive overdose of gruesome insanity. Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs) is a new Miskatonic University student who also moonlights as a mad scientist, intent on perfecting a serum that “re-animates” corpses. Soon, everyone wants a piece of the action, including an evil professor and his army of slime-covered deadites. With berserker theatrics, career-defining roles from horror icons Combs and Barbara Crampton, and a scene of two adults chasing an undead cat in a basement, RE-ANIMATOR isn’t just a masterpiece of the horror genre — it’s a masterpiece of life.
