Salt Lake City Arts Council Strategic Plan
2017-2020 Salt Lake City Arts Council Strategic Plan 2017-2020 Introduction The Salt Lake City Council on the Arts was formed in 1976 at the request of Mayor Ted Wilson, who appointed its first Executive Director. The Council was created to help distribute funds to arts organizations within the City, taking the burden off the City Commission. By 1979 a nonprofit entity, The Salt Lake Arts Council Foundation, was established to manage funds designated for the arts organization and also begin programming of their own. The two staff members of the Foundation were City employees. In 1981, this new group moved into the Art Barn, located in the City’s Reservoir Park, when the space was vacated by the Salt Lake Arts Center. From that initial beginning, the organization now has six full-time City employees who, together with the Foundation board, have grown the original concept into a significant cultural entity in the City. The Salt Lake City Arts Council is the City’s designated local arts agency and uses its unique position as manager of both public and received-grant resources to leverage how the arts are supported and presented to the City. Through its work, the Council has created enduring connections between the arts and the public, cultivated future artists and arts organizations, given voice to community arts conversations and needs, provided resources for arts programming, offered education about the arts as well as support of arts education efforts, and impacted City policy affecting the arts. It has developed its own programs, as well, that have endured for decades and serve as models for other arts programming. -

PORT AUTHORITY OF ALLEGHENY COUNTY LIGHT RAIL TRANSIT V.4.0 7/20/18 STATION DESIGN GUIDELINES ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Port Authority of Allegheny County (PAAC) provides public transportation throughout Pittsburgh and Allegheny County. The Authority’s 2,600 employees operate, maintain, and support bus, light rail, incline, and paratransit services for approximately 200,000 daily riders. Port Authority is currently focused on enacting several improvements to make service more efficient and easier to use. Numerous projects are either underway or in the planning stages, including implementation of smart card technology, real-time vehicle tracking, and on-street bus rapid transit. Port Authority is governed by an 11-member Board of Directors – unpaid volunteers who are appointed by the Allegheny County Executive, leaders from both parties in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and Senate, and the Governor of Pennsylvania. The Board holds monthly public meetings. Port Authority’s budget is funded by fare and advertising revenue, along with money from county, state, and federal sources. The Authority’s finances and operations are audited on a regular basis, both internally and by external agencies. Port Authority began serving the community in March 1964. The Authority was created in 1959 when the Pennsylvania Legislature authorized the consolidation of 33 private transit carriers, many of which were failing financially. The consolidation included the Pittsburgh Railways Company, along with 32 independent bus and inclined plane companies. By combining fare structures and centralizing operations, Port Authority established the first unified transit system in Allegheny County. She has served as evaluator for STEM education projects sponsored by the National Science Foundation, NASA, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and the Arizona Department of Education, among others. Areas of expertise include evaluations of engineering education curricula and programs, informal education and outreach programs, STEM teacher development, and climate change education programs. Dr. Philip J. Parker P.E., University of Wisconsin - Platteville Philip Parker, Ph.D., P.E., is Program Coordinator for the Environmental Engineering program at the Uni- versity of Wisconsin-Platteville. He is co-author of the textbook ”Introduction to Infrastructure” published in 2012 by Wiley. He has helped lead the recent efforts by the UW-Platteville Civil and Environmental Engineering department to revitalize their curriculum by adding a sophomore-level infrastructure course and integrating infrastructure content into upper level courses. Dr. Michael K Thompson, University of Wisconsin - Platteville Dr. M. Keith Thompson is currently a professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Dr. Thompson received his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees from The University of Texas in Austin and his B.S. degree from North Carolina State University. He is a member of ASEE and ASCE. His research interests include concrete structures, bridge infrastructure, civil engineering curricu- lum reform, student retention, and advising. He is currently working on research related to integration of infrastructure issues into the civil engineering curriculum and the use of data analytics to improve student retention. -

DIRECTIONS FROM SLC INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TO THE HOTEL AND TRAINING VENUE Taking Light Rail from the Airport to and from the Comfort Inn The TRAX Green Line provides light rail service between Salt Lake International Airport and downtown. Wayfinding signs in the airport provide arriving passengers guidance on how to get to the airport station. The fare is $2.50 one-way and kiosks that allow for credit card purchase of tickets are available just inside the exit doors from the airport to the train station. Service from the airport to downtown runs every 15 minutes beginning at 5:42 AM with the last train departing from the airport at 11:27 PM. Service from downtown (Courthouse Station) to the airport begins at 5:11 AM with the last train leaving at 10:56 PM. The trip between the airport and Courthouse Station takes approximately 24 minutes. Detailed schedules and maps can be found at this link. The Courthouse light rail station is the closest stop on the Green Line for training participants staying at the Comfort Inn. -

Signatures on file in the Graduate School. iii Abstract Recent studies have reconsidered the Mormon Culture Region in light of its 1880{1920 transition to American political and economic norms. While these studies emphasize conflicts between the Mormon establishment and the non-Mormon federal government, Mormon/non-Mormon relations within Utah have received little direct attention. Based on religious affiliations recorded in the 1880 federal census of Utah Territory, this study uses historical GIS to visualize the composition of Utah's \Mormon" and \non-Mormon" towns. The results highlight the extensive presence of religious minorities in Utah's settlements. Case studies of farm villages, mining camps, and urban neighborhoods probe the social and economic contexts of non-Mormon presence in Utah. These studies, based on Sanborn maps and city directories, explore the geographical mosaic of Mormon and non-Mormon residence and business activity. These variegated patterns, often absent from historical accounts of the region, enable localized analyses of the ensuing decades of cultural conflict, transformation and assimilation. She concludes the interview by talking about the joy she finds in volunteering her time to help refugees in Utah. Directions The Matheson Courthouse is at 450 South State Street. If you take Trax, Courthouse Station is the closest stop on the N/S Line. From there the courthouse west entrance is about ½ block. On the University Line, the closest stop is Library Station, about 1½ blocks from the east entrance. If you drive, we can validate your parking if you park at the courthouse. Public parking (Level P2) is accessible only from 400 South, eastbound. If you are already west of the Courthouse, drive eastbound on 400 South and turn right into the driveway about mid-block between Main and State. (Don't go to the parking garage for the old First Security Building.) If you are east of the Courthouse, take 500 South to Main Street, turn right, and then right again on 400 South. Enter the driveway as above. Bear to the left as you descend the driveway. A deputy sheriff might ask you your business at the courthouse. After parking, take the elevator to the first floor rotunda. The courthouse has airport-type security, so leave whatever might be considered a weapon in your car. We are in the Judicial Council Room in Suite N31. To get to Suite N31, take the elevator to the 3d Floor. The elevators are near the east entrance to the building. Then turn left as you exit the elevator.
