A young American woman Sara (Natalie Dormer) comes to the Aokigahara Forest at the foot of Mt. Fuji in search of her twin sister.

In spite of everyone’s warnings not to stray from the path she enters the forest, only to be confronted by the tortured souls of the dead who prey on those they encounter.

But is the real horror the ghosts that lurk in the forest, or the ones buried deep inside her…?

Why We Like It:

There’s nothing more terrifying than a horror that’s rooted in reality – and The Forest is set in what’s arguably one of the eeriest and most unsettling places in the world.

Famed for its stories of “yurei” (Japanese ghosts) and its long association with death, Aokigahara’s real-life reputation makes The Forest even more chilling than most supernatural horrors.

Debut director Jason Zada handles the story masterfully, combining a sense of nerve shredding tension and shocks – recall such horror hits as Sinister and The Conjuring – with haunting imagery from Japanese folklore that made fi lms such as The Ring and The Grudge so terrifying,

Natalie Dormer also puts in terrifi c dual performance, playing both protagonist Sara and her troubled twin sister Jess – more than just a scream queen, it’s proof that’s she’s one of this generation’s most talented and charismatic acting talents.

Be sure to take a terrifying trip into The Forest!
