A preliminary health survey was conducted in Thabeikkyin Township, Mandalay Region, Myanmar, in February 2020 to assess the health conditions of an ASGM community. Respiratory function and other clinical assessments were evaluated in miners and non-miners, and participants’ hair was analyzed for heavy metals. Respiratory function of miners was similar to that of non-miners. However, miners’ respiratory function declined with longer mining activity duration. In total, 3 out of 18 miners showed neurological signs and symptoms of chronic mercury intoxication. The median concentration of the hair mercury was significantly higher in miners than non-miners (P = 0.01), and 9 out of 18 miners and 2 out of 11 non-miners showed the warning level of mercury. -

Indonesia juga merespons konflik Rohingya dengan menggunakan diplomasi yang inklusif dan konstruktif, yaitu non-megaphone dan diplomasi publik yang intensif pada 2015-2017 dan menjadi negara yang diizinkan oleh Myanmar untuk ikut membantu konflik Rohingya. The Integrated Check Post (ICP), now under construction at Moreh gate No.1, will be operational within two months according to a statement by officials of the Land Port Authority of India under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Mr. P.K Mishra, director (Projects) on their three days’ official visit to Moreh in the last week of August 2017. The ICP, observers believe, is a vital cog in India’s Look East, now Act East policy, aimed at integrating the economies of India and Southeast Asia through the northeast. In the year 2006 when the then Minister of State for Commerce, Mr. Jairam Ramesh, spoke of the Centre’s intention of investing Rs.70 crore for the project specifically as part of the Prime Minister’s Look East Policy, the only functional land customs station through which trade across the 1600 kms of Indo-Myanmar border took place was at Moreh. The ICP being built by RITES was then heralded by the Minister as a new concept aimed at managing both trade cargo and passenger movement across the border and providing modern infrastructure facilities and better connectivity. The ICP would greatly facilitate regional trade and would help the local community living in the border towns of Moreh and Tamu, he felt. -

The area is mainly underlain by high-grade metamorphic units and intrusive rocks. Gold-sulphide bearing quartz veins are predominantly hosted in gneisses and marbles. Numerous faults striking N, NNE, ENE and E to ESE with moderate to steep dips occurred in the area. The veins are characterized by banded, colloform, cockcade, breccia and some vuggy textures. The vein-related alteration is characterized by silicification, sericitization and chloritization from the inner to the outer zones. Principal metallic minerals are pyrite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite, galena, arsenopyrite in addition to electrum. The mineralogy of the vein is recognized into three paragenetic stages. Stage 1 is pre-mineralization stage. Stage 2 is main mineralization stage and stage 3 is post-ore carbonate Abstract stage. Quartz with minor sulfide, mainly pyrite was deposited during stage 1. Precious and base metals were precipitated during stage 2. In this stage, adularia is common. Gold and silver are more enriched in the veins containing abundant adularia than virtually quartz rich veins. In stage 3, the veins are barren. Bullion fineness data of the whole area display a wide range of fineness (416-875). -

Box 596, Georgetown, SC 29442, USA ABSTRACT. In contrast to other countries in Asia, little is known concerning the possible occurrence of undescribed Hominoidea (i.e., wildmen) in Myanmar (Burma). We here present six accounts from Myanmar describing wildmen or their sign published between 1910 and 1972; three of these reports antedate popularization of wildmen (e.g., yeti and sasquatch) in the global media. Most reports emanate from mountainous regions of northern Myanmar (primarily Kachin State) where wildmen appear to inhabit montane forests. Wildman tracks are described as superficially similar to human (Homo sapiens) footprints, and about the same size to almost twice the size of human tracks. Presumptive pressure ridges were described in one set of wildman tracks. Accounts suggest wildmen are bipedal, 120-245 cm in height, and covered in longish pale to orange-red hair with a head-neck ruff. Wildmen are said to utter distinctive vocalizations, emit strong odors, and sometimes behave aggressively towards humans. Published accounts of wildmen in Myanmar are largely based on narratives provided by indigenous informants. We found nothing to indicate informants were attempting to beguile investigators, and consider it unlikely that wildmen might be confused with other large mammals native to the region. -
