2.3.6 Zambia Border Crossing of Kazungula Overview Daily Capacity Customs Clearance Other Relevant Information Overview Zambian Revenue Authority and Immigration staff are present at this crossing. It is a large office that is constantly congested with truck traffic. Access is good on tarmac roads from the north and south. From the North the nearest major center is Mongu. The eastern roads to Mongu are overall in good condition , even though the tarmac is damaged and has cracked in some places. Access from Livingstone is good and the road is in good condition. Pontoon operations are still operational though the World Bank funded bridge is now completed and awaits commissioning during the month of May 2021. Once the bridge has been commissioned, it is expected that traffic will increase at this border point as it is a shorter route from Livingstone City in Zambia to the City of Johannesburg in South Africa. Its about 900km from Kazungula border to Johannesburg via Botswana. Water Scenarios for the Zambezi River Basin, 2000 - 2050 Lucas Beck ∗ Thomas Bernauer ∗∗ June 1, 2010 Abstract Consumptive water use in the Zambezi river basin (ZRB), one of the largest fresh- water catchments in Africa and worldwide, is currently around 15-20% of total runoff. This suggests many development possibilities, particularly for irrigated agriculture and hydropower production. Development plans of the riparian countries indicate that con- sumptive water use might increase up to 40% of total runoff already by 2025. We have constructed a rainfall–runoff model for the ZRB that is calibrated on the best available runoff data for the basin. We then feed a wide range of water demand drivers as well as climate change predictions into the model and assess their implications for runoff at key points in the water catchment. The results show that, in the absence of effective international cooperation on water allocation issues, population and economic growth, expansion of irrigated agriculture, and water transfers, combined with climatic changes are likely to have very important transboundary impacts. In particular, such impacts involve drastically reduced runoff in the dry season and changing shares of ZRB coun- tries in runoff and water demand. These results imply that allocation rules should be set up within the next few years before serious international conflicts over sharing the Zambezi’s waters arise. African Countries are Awakening Hope for a Better Tomorrow with IDA Statement by Representatives of 49 Sub-Saharan African (SSA) Countries IDA19 Fourth Replenishment Meeting, December 12-13, 2019, Stockholm, Sweden 1. IDA countries have only 10 years to achieve the globally agreed targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Given that it takes 9 years for pledges under any IDA cycle to be fully paid up, IDA19 is therefore, the last replenishment to help finance the SDGs in the time left to 2030. 2. Africa as a continent is making progress towards the SDGs. Growth in many economies has outpaced global benchmarks. More children are in school and health service coverage is expanding. A continent-wide free-trade agreement shows regional cooperation is alive and deepening, including in building roads and power lines that bring countries together and make markets bigger. The support of donors to the 18th replenishment of the International Development Association (IDA18) has been pivotal and has underpinned the partnership between African countries and the World Bank Group (WBG) that has never been stronger. Indeed, Africa’s absorptive capacity to carefully use concessional funds has ensured that the pace of commitment for IDA18 has been record-breaking. 3. We want to acknowledge the strong partnership between IDA and most of our countries. We commend all donors for the important role that IDA has been playing in the transformation agenda of most SSA countries. We are happy with the negotiated IDA19 package and the continuation of all the special themes of IDA18, the Private Sector Window, and the improvements to the various facilities especially under Fragility, Conflict and Violence (FCV). -

Establishment and Functions The Zambezi River Authority (ZRA) was established as a corporate body on 1 October 1987 by parallel legislation in the Parliaments of Zambia and Zimbabwe under the Zambezi River Authority Acts No.17 and 19 respectively. It was tasked with the management of the Zambezi River, which flows between the two countries’ common border. ZRA is also mandated to maintain the Kariba Dam Complex (Kariba Complex) and to construct and maintain other dams or infrastructure on the river forming the border between the two countries. Principal Functions The functions of the Authority are set out in the schedule to the Zambezi River Authority Acts of 1987 as fo llows: (a) Operate monitor and maintain the Kariba Complex. -

The Zambezi River Basin, situated in southern Africa, currently offers vast water resources for social and economic development for the eight riparian countries that constitute the watershed. Hydropower generation and agriculture are the main water users in the watershed with great potential of expansion, plus urban water supply materialise the largest consumers of this resource. Climate and social changes are pressuring natural resources availability which might show severe alterations due to enhances in the variability of precipitation patterns. This study thus examines the present water resources in the transboundary basin and executes low and high case future climate change incited scenarios in order to estimate the possible availability of water for the period 2060-2099 by performing water balances. -

REPUBLIC OF KENYA CONVENTION BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF KENYA AND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF ZAMBIA FOR THE AVOIDANCE OF DOUBLE TAXATION AND THE PREVENTION OF FISCAL EVASION WITH RESPECT TO TAXES ON INCOME The Convention between the Government of the Republic of Kenya and the Government of the Republic of Zambia for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income. The Government of the Republic of Kenya and the Government of the Republic of Zambia. Desiring to conclude a Convention for the avoidance of double taxation and prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income. Have agreed as follows:- Article I [Taxes covered] 1. The taxes which are the subject of the present Convention are: (a) in Zambia (and hereinafter referred to as "Zambian tax"): (i) the income tax; (ii) supertax; (iii) the undistributed profits tax; and (iv) the personal levy; (b) in Kenya (and hereinafter referred to as "Kenyan tax"): (i) the income tax; (ii) corporation tax; (iii) the undistributed income tax; and (iv) the graduated personal tax. 2. The present Convention shall also apply to any other taxes of a substantially similar character imposed in Zambia or Kenya subsequently to the date of signature of the present Convention. At the end of each year the taxation authorities of the Contracting States shall notify to each other any changes which have been made in their respective taxation laws. Article II [General definitions] 1. In the present Convention, unless the context
