Accessibili direttamente dall’hotel, le Terme di Torre Canne, fra le più belle direttamente sul mare, convenzionate con il Sistema Sanitario Nazionale. IL TERRITORIO: Ci troviamo in Puglia, a pochi passi dalle splendide città bianche della Valle D’Itria (Locorotondo, Ostuni e Martina Franca a circa 25 km). I soggiorni in Puglia permettono di godere di paesaggi di indiscutibile bellezza, tra mare e campagna: a 30 km i trulli di Alberobello; a 40 km le Grotte di Castellaneta e Putignano. A soli 15 km lo Zoo Safari di Fasano. MARE E SPIAGGIA: punto di assistenza e informazioni. Ad ogni famiglia è assegnato un ombrellone con un lettino ed una sdraio. Il mare, dal fondale sabbioso, nella fascia più prossima al bagnasciuga, è adatto alla balneazione dei bambini. A disposizione degli Ospiti barche a vela (salvo negli orari dei corsi), windsurf e canoe, pedalò, oltre che partecipazione a corsi collettivi di vela. LE CAMERE: 320 camere, poste su 6 piani suddivise in Camere Classic, Premium, Comfort e Family. Classic: dotate di aria condizionata con regolazione individuale, telefono, TV, minifrigo, cassaforte, bagno con doccia o vasca, asciugacapelli. E’ possibile richiedere in fase di prenotazione, previa disponibili- tà: camere con balconcino (alcune camere al 1° piano non dispongono di balconcino) o con balconcino e vista mare (vedi Tabella Prezzi). Su richiesta possibilità di camere per diversamente abili. LE DISTANZE NEL VILLAGGIO: Le camere distano mediamente 200 mt dal mare. Il villaggio è direttamente sulla spiaggia e non ci sono strade interposte. All’interno è vietata agli Ospiti la circolazione con qualsiasi mezzo di trasporto motorizzato o elettrico. RISTORANTI E BAR: Due sale ristorante climatizzate e con tavoli assegnati da 8/9 persone, quindi spesso in compagnia di altri Ospiti (per chi sceglie la camera Comfort la sistemazione è in tavolo riservato). Prima colazione, pranzo e cena sono con servizio a buffet e show-cooking nel ristorante centrale. Il GranSerena Hotel offre, oltre al ristorante centrale, il ristorante/braceria Il Gusto con tavolo riservato per famiglia, aperto a pranzo e a cena dal lunedì al sabato dal 10/6 al 14/9; il servizio è gratuito e sog- getto a disponibilità limitata, eventualmente con turni distribuiti su più fasce orarie, ed è prenotabile in villaggio nel giorno precedente. Cynthianne Debono Spiteri A thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy University of York Department of Archaeology August 2012 Abstract Recent research has attributed the introduction of agriculture in the western Mediterranean to several rapid waves of ‘maritime pioneer colonisation’, followed by indigenous adoption. Impressed/Cardial Wares are thought to have spread simultaneously with domesticates through this region, and are hypothesised to have been used to process domestic plant and animal products. To test this hypothesis, organic residue analysis (ORA) has been applied to 301 Impressed/Cardial Ware vessels recovered from 14 Early and Middle Neolithic sites in the western Mediterranean, to determine their content and function. ORA is a well established technique that can provide direct and sometimes specific evidence of an artefact’s function by analysing lipid residues trapped within its matrix. Characterisation of these fatty residues was carried out using Gas Chromatography (GC), GC-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), and GC-combustion-Isotope Ratio MS (GC-c-IRMS). The latter is especially useful, since it allows the δ13C values of two particular fatty acids, C16:0 and C18:0, to be measured. Because of variations in the way these two fatty acids are biosynthesised and routed in different organisms, the difference between their δ13C measurements (i.e. Δ13C values) allow distinction between various types of fat, namely between ruminant and non-ruminant adipose, and ruminant adipose and ruminant dairy products.

Località marina con spiagge di sabbia bianca e fine che rientra nel Parco naturale regionale Dune costiere da Torre Canne a Torre San Leonardo istituito nel 2006. Simbolo della frazione è il Faro costruito nel 1929 che illumina la costa, le scogliere e tutto il mare antistante. Il nome "Torre Canne" deriva da un'antica torre di guardia posta a protezione delle coste dalle scorrerie dei Saraceni. Situata nella zona in cui oggi sorge la caserma della Guardia di Finanza. Costruita nel XVI secolo e abbattuta dopo l'ultimo conflitto mondiale, la torre fu detta delle canne poiché situata nei pressi di un ampio canneto in parte ancora oggi esistente ed era alimentato dai numerosi torrenti che dalla collina sfocavano nella zona di Torre Canne (oggi ne rimangono due visibili, il Fiume Grande e il Fiume Piccolo). Proprio queste acque sorgive erano considerate curative tanto da essere denominate "Acque di Cristo" per la loro azione terapeutica. Torre Canne è conosciuta per le terme. Le acque termali di Torre Canne furono scoperte a metà dell’Ottocento, ma il vero e proprio sfruttamento cominciò nel dopoguerra con la costruzione dello stabilimento termale, ingrandito e ristrutturato nel corso degli anni.

The aim of this study is identifying autumnal beach litter using ground-based IR thermography. Starting from quarterly autumn monitoring data of air temperature and sandy soil surface temperature, an empirical equation between the two environmental matrices (air and sandy soil) is obtained. This will allow the calculation of the sandy soil surface temperature knowing only the air temperature. Therefore, it will be possible to know in advance the thermal response of the sandy soil, thus creating a thermal blank of the beach. Using an IR thermal camera, it is possible for a quicker identification of thermal anomalies of the coastal area potentially connected to the presence of pollution due to the anthropogenic origin (particularly plastic material).
