Will the Minister of HOME AFFAIRS be pleased to state:
(a) the State-wise number of persons detained under the National Security Act (NSA);
(b) the reasons for detaining them; and
(c) since when they are detained?

(a): The number of persons detained State-wise has been tabulated in the Annexure-I. The information is based on the number of detention
Reports under NSA received from the State Governments in the Ministry.
(b): The National Security Act (NSA), 1980 is a Central Act for detentions by the Central Government or the State Government to prevent a person from acting in any manner prejudicial to the defence of India, the relations of India with foreign powers, security of the State, maintenance of public order and maintenance of supplies and services essential to the community.
(c): The National Security Act, 1980 provides that the maximum period for which any person may be detained in pursuance of any detention order which has been confirmed shall be twelve months from the date of detention.
