ZMINA is implementing this project in partnership with the Netherlands Helsinki Committee and with financial support by the Euro- pean Union. The purpose of this report is to assess the situation with the persecution of and pressure on civil activists in July-September 2020, to describe the new incidents and newly revealed circumstances in the earlier cases of attacks on human rights defenders that became known in this period. This study supplements and expands on the materials provided in the two previous monitoring re- ports1 which cover the first half of 2020. In view of an acute need for protecting civil society actors, for revealing gaps in legislation and in the activities of law enforcement agencies, the main purpose of this study is to provide full and rel- evant information about the situations with persecution of and pressure on human rights defenders and civil activists in the government-controlled territory of Ukraine to representatives

The article also examines the role of memes in society. These memes were created in 2019 during the Ukrai- nian presidential election. The article firstly focuses on the verbal aspects of the memes and their semantic and functional features. In addition, the peculiarities of opponent image construction are analysed. The article then examines the influence of Ukrainian politicians on the conduct of the “meme war”. The article also sheds light on the role which memes play in the polarization of society. The main focus of this visit was the ongoing developments with regard to the fight against corruption, especially following adoption of the Law on the High Anti-Corruption Court, as well as the preparations for the upcoming election cycle in 2019, when both Presidential and Parliamentary elections will be organised in Ukraine. The rapporteurs for Ukraine have changed since the last visit. On 24 April 2018, Ms Dzhema Grozdanova (Bulgaria, EPP/CD) was appointed to replace Mr Axel Fischer, who had ceased to be a member of the Assembly in January 2018, and on 11 October 2018, Mr Alfred Heer (Switzerland, ALDE) was appointed to replace Mr Kross who had left the Assembly in the summer of 2018.
