Claudia Giannetti is a researcher specialized in contemporary art, aesthetics, media art and the relation between art, science and technology. She is a theoretician, writer and exhibitions curator. For 18 years she war director of institutions and art centres in Spain, Portugal and Germany, including MECAD\ Media Centre of Art & Design (Barcelona) and the Edith- Russ-Haus for Media Art (Oldenburg, Germany). She has curated more than hundred exhibitions and cultural events in international museums. She was Professor in Spanish and Portuguese universities for the past two decades, and visiting professor and lecturer worldwide. She performs the function of adviser in several international multimedia and media art projects. ABSTRACT Supporters of mega-sporting events such as the World Cup and Olympics claim that these events attract hoards of wealthy visitors and lead to lasting economic benefits for the host regions. For this reason, cities and countries compete vigorously for the right to stage these spectacles. Recently, developing countries have become increasingly vocal in demanding that they get the right to share in the economic benefits of these international games. China, for example, has been awarded the 2008 Summer Olympics, and an African nation seems destined to host the 2010 World Cup. The specialized infrastructure and operating expenses required to host these events, however, can be extremely costly, and it is not at all clear that either the long or short-term benefits of the games are anywhere nearly large enough to cover these costs. This paper reviews other researchers’ as well as our own previous work on mega-sporting events such as the Super Bowl and World Series as well as international events like the World Cup and Olympics. -

Olympic Games Day 1 Olympics Summer Winter Aniket Pawar Special/Paralympics Youth The Original Greek Games began in ancient Greece took place every fourth year for several hundred years. The earliest record of the Olympic Games goes back to776 BC. The Original Olympics The only event was a foot race of about 183 meters. They also included competitions in music, oratory and theatre performances. The 18-th Olympics Included wrestling and pentathlon, later Games – chariot races and other sports. In 394 A.D. the games were ended by the Roman emperor Theodosius. Pierre de Coubertin Brought the Olympic Games back to life in 1896. SPORTS IN SUMMER OLYMPICS • The current categories are: ▫ Category A: athletics, aquatics, gymnastics.3 ▫ Category B: basketball, cycling, football, tennis, and volleyball.5 ▫ Category C: archery, badminton, boxing, judo, rowing, shooting, table tennis, and weightlifting.8 ▫ Category D: canoe/kayaking, equestrian, fencing, handball, field hockey, sailing, taekwondo, triathlon, and wrestling.9 ▫ Category E: modern pentathlon, golf, and rugby.3 WINTER OLYMPIC GAMES • held every four years. • The athletes compete in 20 different disciplines (including 5 Paralympics' disciplines). Founder & Beginning • The foundation for the Winter Olympics are Nordic games. • Gustav Viktor Balck - organizer of the Nordic games and a member of the IOC. • The first Summer Olympics with winter sport were in London, in 1908. The first ‘winter sports week’ was planned in 1916, in Berlin, but the Olympics were cancelled because of the outbreak of the World War I. The first true Winter Olympics were in 1924, in Chamonix, France. • In 1986, the IOC decided to separate the Summer and Winter Games on separate years. -

When an image on the film is obliterated with a large round black mark, it is an indication that the photographer suspected that the copy may have moved during exposure and thus cause a blurred image. You will find a good image of the page in the adjacent frame. 3. When a map, drawing or chart, etc., was part of the material being photographed the photographer followed a definite method in "sectioning" the material. It is customary to begin photoing at the upper left hand corner of a large sheet and to continue photoing from left to right in equal sections with a small overlap. If necessary, sectioning is continued again — beginning below the first row and continuing on until complete. 4. The majority of users indicate that the textual content is of greatest value, however, a somewhat higher quality reproduction could be made from "photographs" if essential to the understanding of the dissertation. -

Abstract When Netflix launched in April 1998, Internet video was in its infancy. Eighteen years later, Netflix has developed into the first truly global Internet TV network. Many books have been written about the five broadcast networks – NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, and the CW – and many about the major cable networks – HBO, CNN, MTV, Nickelodeon, just to name a few – and this is the fitting time to undertake a detailed analysis of how Netflix, as the preeminent Internet TV networks, has come to be. This book, then, combines historical, industrial, and textual analysis to investigate, contextualize, and historicize Netflix's development as an Internet TV network. The book is split into four chapters. The first explores the ways in which Netflix's development during its early years a DVD-by-mail company – 1998-2007, a period I am calling "Netflix as Rental Company" – lay the foundations for the company's future iterations and successes. During this period, Netflix adapted DVD distribution to the Internet, revolutionizing the way viewers receive, watch, and choose content, and built a brand reputation on consumer-centric innovation. -

Page 1 ANGUS REID WORLD POLL - THE WORLD WILL BE WATCHING THE 2000 SUMMER OLYMPIC GAMES ON TELEVISION - Public Release Date: August 03, 2000 These results emerged from an international public opinion survey conducted by the Angus Reid Group. This poll involved interviews among a total of 20,170 adults in 39 countries. Data collection was carried out from mid June to early July 2000. The target sample size was 500 for each country, with the exception of a 1,000 sample size in the United States. In 32 of the 39 countries, the survey sample provided national representation; in the other eight countries – Brazil, Chile, China, India, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Russia and Uzbekistan – the survey samples are urban-only. In-person, door-to- door interviewing was used in these eight countries as well as in Argentina, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Philippines, Poland, Romania and Ukraine. Telephone interviewing was used in all other countries. The complete data set was statistically weighted so that the overall survey results reflect the proportional populations of the countries/urban areas in the global sample. The Angus Reid Group is Canada’s premier market research and public opinion polling firm with offices across Canada and the United States. The company also provides international clients with a regularly scheduled quarterly global polling program wherein upwards of 30 countries over a two-month timeframe are sampled for opinions on private sector and public matters. The Angus Reid Group also publishes, on a quarterly basis, the World Monitor – a digest of world public opinion trends and insights gleaned from its world polling activities. -

It recalls sliding sports and France with its colours as well as the olympic spirit with the flame inspired by the Savoie cross and the olympic rings. So as to integrate the olympic emblem (text, rings), a deep graphic study was made. The official logo of the 1992 Winter Olympics Games consists of three inseparable elements : - a symbol, "the flame", - a typography "Albertville 92", - the olympic rings which according to the IOC olympic charter, "represent the union of the five continents and the meeting of athletes of the whole world on the occasion of the Olympic Games in a spirit of loyal competition and friendship, ideal praised by the Baron de Coubertin". -
