PHYSICAL ASSETS IN OX12

A comprehensive exercise was undertaken to map the physical assets that exist and are most used by people living in OX12 to meet their health and care needs. This included a survey undertaken by the Stakeholder Reference Group supported by research and a wealth of local knowledge.

A physical asset is a structure such as a school, hospital, church, library, recreation centre or a social club. It could also be a park or other open space.

This has been brought together in this document to provide list of known physical assets in OX12. It includes:

WANTAGE COMMUNITY HOSPITAL (See Appendix 2) is a hospital that includes a Midwifery-led Unit, Children’s Services, Speech and Language Therapy Services a musculoskeletal (MSK) physiotherapy service. Twelve inpatient rehabilitation beds at the hospital have been temporarily closed for three years (since 2016) following the identification of legionella.

MABLY WAY HEALTH CENTRE (See Appendix 2) includes the 2 GP practices (Church Street Surgery and Newbury Street Surgery)

THE BEACON COMMUNITY CENTRE (See Appendix 1) provides a varied programme of events from film screenings, live music, theatre and stand-up comedy to a range of classes and workshops. There is a choice of rooms for hire, including a large auditorium, a dance studio and three other function rooms. There is also a café on site.

WANTAGE INDEPENDENT ADVICE CENTRE (WIAC) (See Appendix 1) that is based in Wantage and serves Wantage, Grove, Faringdon and residents of the Vale of White Horse district. The centre is staffed by volunteers and provides:  advice on a wide range of topics, including debt management, benefits entitlements, employment rights, consumer rights. Other agencies and organisations also hold sessions or group meetings at the WIAC premises.  a transport scheme to hospitals, doctors, day centres, shops etc. for people who are unable to use public transport.  a ‘Good Neighbour’ scheme offering volunteer befriending perhaps over a cup of tea or to help with small tasks (such as simple DIY, paperwork, de-cluttering, collecting prescriptions etc.).
